Manipur cops warn of action for circulating fake, unverified msgs
Guwahati: Manipur govt has expressed concern over the proliferation of erroneous information and unsubstantiated assertions on social media and online messaging platforms regarding the deployment of supplementary central security forces in the state.
The state home department, in a communiqué issued on Monday, implored all civil society organizations, media outlets, both print and electronic, and individuals to refrain from amplifying such fallacious information that may inflame public sentiments and engender untoward incidents, paranoia, and a challenging atmosphere for law enforcement agencies to operate smoothly and effectively.
“Panic mongering by fabrication, rampant sharing and forwarding of unverified messages on social media and other mass media platforms will be viewed seriously and appropriate action against the enablers under relevant laws of the land,” the state warned.
Rehanuddin Choudhury, the officer on special duty (OSD) in the home department, elucidated in the notification that the speculation of military reinforcement into the state is baseless and should be disregarded as misinformation. “The fact is security personnel requisitioned outside Manipur for the general elections to the 18th Lok Sabha are returning to their bases in Manipur,” he added.
