Rayong Province, in collaboration with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited (SCGC), and Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal Company Limited, a subsidiary of SCGC, organized a ceremony to present financial support to communities affected by the incident involving Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal Company Limited. The funds are intended to support CSR activities, allowing the communities to carry out public benefit projects. The ceremony was presided over by Traiphop Wongtrairat, Governor of Rayong Province, with the attendance of Pamuk Tepalakul, Assistant to the Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, Sakchai Patiparnpreechavud, Chief Executive Officer & President of SCGC, Mongkol Hengrojanasophon, Chief Operations Officer of SCGC, Tawin Phobuathong, Mayor of Map Ta Phut Municipality, Suchin Poonhiran, Mayor of Ban Chang Municipality, and Santi Butsabasri, Deputy Mayor of Mapkha Pattana Municipality, along with representatives from over 80 communities. The event was held at the Rayong Provincial town hall. Sakchai Patiparnpreechavud, Chief Executive Officer & President of SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited (SCGC), said, "The company deeply apologizes for and regrets the incident involving Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal Company Limited. We have taken steps to provide financial support to the affected communities, structured into three main categories: 1) Providing financial support to two communities designated as disaster areas: Takuan Ao Pradu and Nong Fab, based on their registered population. For residents living in rental properties not listed in the official registry, the company will provide relief packages; 2) Assisting and compensating affected individuals, with a committee established by Rayong Province to oversee and monitor the assistance and compensation process, chaired by the Governor of Rayong; and 3) Supporting CSR activities by allocating special funds for community public benefit projects. This will be directed to communities within Map Ta Phut Municipality, Mapkha Pattana Subdistrict Municipality, and Ban Chang Subdistrict Municipality, covering 62 communities and 21 fishing groups. The total CSR budget supported by the company amounts to 7,250,000 baht. This financial support for the communities is part of the first and third categories. The second category is currently under the committee's supervision."

Circular Plas Company Limited (Circular Plas), led by Dr. Suracha Udomsak, Chairman of the Circular Plas Board and SCGC’s Chief Innovation Officer, and Toyo Engineering Corporation (TOYO), led by Mr. Yoshinari Miyazaki, Senior Executive Officer have entered into a joint development agreement (JDA) for the collaboration for the implementation of the capacity expansion and business opportunity for commercialization of the innovative design of equipment and engineering process relating to turning mixed post-consumer plastics into recycled feedstock for petrochemical businesses, owned by Circular Plas, an affiliate company of SCGC The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in January 2022 laid the groundwork for this ambitious project, focusing on improving processes to convert post-consumer plastics into a resource for petrochemical production. The subsequent expansion of demonstration plant capacities and the move towards commercialization are clear indicators of the project's success and potential. The demonstration plant in Rayong province, Thailand, is a pioneering facility that has successfully converted post-consumer plastics into pyrolysis products, a raw material for petrochemical plants, thereby closing the loop in the plastic lifecycle. This achievement is not only a technical feat but also a milestone in sustainability, as evidenced by the ISCC certification. Circular Plas's plastic-recycling technology is particularly noteworthy for its energy efficiency and environmental benefits. The innovative use of a proprietary multifunctional materials in the liquefaction process significantly reduces the temperature required for conversion, resulting in higher yields of light cracked oils and a reduced environmental footprint. Moreover, TOYO's expertise in reactor design has been instrumental in adapting the technology to handle the variable nature of post-consumer plastics. Their efforts to enhance continuous-operation capabilities and increase capacity utilization underscore the technical prowess and forward-thinking approach of both TOYO and Circular Plas. Currently, a new reactor jointly developed and designed between TOYO and Circular Plas is being prepared for installation in the demonstration plant. Circular Plas and TOYO expect to demonstrate this reactor system in early 2025, bringing a prospect of scaling up the demonstration plant to achieving commercialization target. This partnership is poised to make a substantial impact on the petrochemical industry by offering a sustainable alternative to traditional feedstock sources. It also encourages the industry to adopt the circular economy approach, where waste is not an endpoint but a new beginning.

SCG International and BigBloc Start JV Operations for First Plant of AAC Wall in India Under the Brand ‘ZMARTBUILD WALL by NXTBLOC’ SIAM Cement BigBloc Construction Technologies Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Gujarat-based BigBloc Construction Ltd and Thailand’s SCG International Corporation Co., Ltd., (SCG International) has launched its India operations with the commercial production of its first plant in Kheda, Gujarat. With the vision of launching next-generation walling solution for the Indian market, the joint venture has invested around Rs. 65 crore in setting up a 2.5 lakh cubic meter per annum capacity project including India’s first AAC Wall Plant at Kheda district near Ahmedabad (Gujarat). The AAC Wall will be marketed under the brand name ‘ZMARTBUILD WALL by NXTBLOC’. The joint venture company will also manufacture AAC Blocks. The plant was inaugurated in the august presence of H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador of Thailand to Republic of India, a Guest of Honour, Mr. Balvantsinh Rajput, Minister Industries, MSME, Government of Gujarat, Chief Guest along with senior officials from SCG International, BigBloc Construction. In FY 2021-22, BigBloc Construction entered into a strategic Joint Venture with SCG International from Thailand for setting up state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for AAC Walls and AAC Blocks in Kheda District, near Ahmedabad (Gujarat). BigBloc Construction holds 52% in the joint venture company while 48% with SCG International. This is SCG Group’s first investment in India. Mr. Abhijit Datta, Head of International Business and Managing Director of SCG International said, “This collaboration combines SCG’s century-long expertise and advanced technologies with BigBloc’s deep understanding of the local market, we are poised to make a significant impact on India’s construction industry by delivering cost-efficient and sustainable construction solutions. We proudly introduce ‘ZMARTBUILD WALL by NXTBLOC’ – the next generation of world-class walling solutions. This ground-breaking venture is not just about setting new standards; it’s about redefining the construction landscape in India, one wall at a time.” Mr. Naresh Saboo, Managing Director, BigBloc Construction Ltd said, “This joint venture goes beyond a simple business alliance, fostering a bond between countries and cultures. Construction at the plant began in September 2023, and within a year, production started, setting a remarkable record in India’s AAC industry. Moving forward, SCG and BigBloc will work together on all building material solutions to strengthen the supply chain in India, leverage each other’s capabilities, and provide exceptional solutions to the construction industry. With approval from both joint venture parties, the project has the potential to expand to 5 lakh cubic meter per year in the second phase.”

SCGP awarded certificates in “Business Partner Safety Recognition 2023” event, fostering and strengthening safety collaboration together SCGP Contractor Safety Management Committee and SCGP Transportation Safety Committee led by Mr. Wichan Charoenkitsupat - Chief Operating Officer, Packaging Paper Business, granted certificates to the company’s business partners in the “Business Partner Safety Recognition 2023” event. The recognition was dedicated to encourage, support, and promote the concept of safety cooperation among contracted and logistics partners. The recipients demonstrated remarkable performances from January to December 2023 as well as meeting the criteria of Contractor and Transportation’s Contractor Safety Recognition program and the consensus of SCGP Safety Committee. A total of 77 partners were honored, consisting of 38 awards for contracted companies and 39 for the transportation department, classifying into 16 Platinum, 20 Gold, 20 Silver, and 21 Bronze. Additionally, the event featured a stage for exchanging directions on safety management in the workplace and transportation operations of SCGP with business partners, conducted by Mr. Manit Siriworasilp - Asset Performance Management Director, Mr. Boonchoo Panjarattanakorn – Logistics Management Department Manager together with the representatives from Platinum-awarded partners. This discussion was aimed to present the prospective structured strategies and examples of initiating the exceptional standard within the company. Ultimately, SCGP aspires the business partners to collaboratively prioritize safety and embody the terms of “Safety Everywhere, Every Time”. SCGP Drives Packaging Innovations to Bolster Food Security and Sustainability SCGP continues to advance sustainable food packaging innovations, aligning with the global trend of ensuring "food security." This trend prioritizes providing consumers with safe and healthy food that maintains nutritional value while also developing environmentally friendly packaging. By the year 2030, SCGP aims for 100% of its packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable. Ekaraj Niroj, Chief Operating Officer of Consumer and Performance Packaging Business and Enterprise Marketing Director at SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP), revealed that the company has consistently emphasized the development of "sustainable food packaging innovations." This initiative aims to achieve food security by ensuring access to safe and nutritious food. Simultaneously, it focuses on creating sustainability and environmental friendliness, aligning with global trends and meeting the needs of customers in the food and beverage industry. "Consumer behavior nowadays places great importance on safe packaging that is free from toxins and contaminants, of appropriate quality, and capable of extending the shelf life and preserving the nutritional value of food. Consumers also seek clear information about food products, such as expiration dates, storage methods, nutritional content, and the use of eco-friendly packaging that is easily recyclable or made from recycled materials. SCGP has continuously developed such innovations to benefit and create a positive experience for consumers," said Ekaraj. The food security and sustainability packaging innovations developed by SCGP include high-quality and safe packaging, such as OptiBreath. This packaging extends the shelf life of vegetables and fruits by using cutting-edge technology and specialized materials in the Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) system. This system helps prevent contamination of the food inside the packaging, maintains freshness, color, aroma, and taste, and slows the growth of microorganisms. It helps reduce loss and ensures that the food retains its nutritional value for a longer period. Additionally, SCGP has developed R1+, an innovative mono-material flexible packaging made from a single type of plastic, which can easily enter the recycling process. It possesses excellent properties for preventing air and moisture penetration, effectively protecting food products. In terms of foodservice packaging, Fest by SCGP offers solutions that are clean, safe, and can be in direct contact with food while being environmentally friendly. SCGP has allocated an investment budget for the research and development of packaging innovations, averaging 0.5% of annual sales revenue. This demonstrates our commitment to developing sustainable packaging. In 2023, 99.7% of our packaging was recyclable, reusable, or compostable. Our goal is to make 100% of the packaging recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2030," said Ekaraj.
