It was good to be back.   This is how I felt sitting down with Masters’ students at the Institute for European Studies, ULB (IEE-ULB) a few weeks ago. An opportunity to reflect on my own journey since I left this white building on the outskirts of the ULB campus… We talked about the struggle to find a first internship, the ways to start building a network when you don’t know anyone and the skills that help you stand out as a professional. I shared some insights into life at the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU) – what we do and why we do it. We also discussed the importance of avoiding the echo chamber of a professional bubble and connecting with people whose life experience is different. For me, it’s about social engagement/volunteering outside of work.   What I took away from the conversation: - I continue to ask myself a lot of the questions that the group raised – self-doubt never really leaves any of us… - Europe needs the engagement of young professionals who are committed to EU integration and think critically about it to drive change. - Strong links between the professional world and schools/universities are critical for students to be equipped with the right skills to succeed. - We all need to do a better job at making public affairs more inclusive and accessible as a career path. #ULBAlumni

Building connections with individuals in the business travel industry can provide valuable contacts for future job opportunities and mentorship. 4.      Global perspective: The program may include international travel components, allowing students to experience different cultures, business practices, and challenges associated with global travel. This exposure broadens their worldview and equips them with cross-cultural competencies, which are highly valued in today's globalized business environment. 5.      Competitive advantage in recruitment: Involvement in the Global Scholar Experience Program can differentiate graduate students from their peers during the recruitment process. It demonstrates their initiative, adaptability, and readiness to engage in professional environments. Employers often value candidates with relevant industry exposure and experience, making the program participants more attractive to potential recruiters.
