I have been using the \widebar command defined in https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/60253/326104. It has worked perfectly so far, but it has run into problems when writing \mathring{\widebar{k}}. The output is:

which, as you see, has an undesired extra 'k'. Can someone help identify what is going on and how could this be solved? I'm afraid I don't understand much internal TeX code, so I am a bit lost here. Thank you in advance.

I'd not use that complicated code by Hendrik Vogt.

but this produces an error in the nested accents; going past the error produces

but the result is suboptimal anyway, even if we find a way to avoid the error.

If your aim is to define a sort of \widering construction:

  • Wow, thank you very much! I like the last approach. I see there are some letters where the ring doesn't land at the center of the bar below, though. For example, at least for me, \widering{\nu}. Can that be fixed? I'm happy either way, again, thank you!

  • @Josemi With the approach of importing \widebar from \mathabx, I'd get this picture from \widering{\nu}+\widering{xyz} where \widering is defined as \newcommand{\widering}[1]{\mathring{\widerbar{#1}}}

  • okay, that's fine. I preferred not to use the imported one because the bar looked worse with some other letters, but that's me being picky. Thanks
