CrowdStrike, a leading cybersecurity firm, released a faulty content update to the Falcon sensor on 19 July 2024, disrupting Windows devices. In the wake of this incident, cybercriminals quickly exploited the situation. They are registering fake websites to trick IT personnel and the public into downloading malware or revealing sensitive information. Additionally, unofficial code is circulating, falsely claiming to assist organisations in recovering from the outages. Our latest threat advisory (July 22, 2024) has been issued, highlighting fake domain names linked to the CrowdStrike incident. Ensign InfoSecurity proudly participated as a Gold sponsor at the FS-ISAC 2024 APAC Summit, held from 9-10 July 2024. The Financial Services sector remains one of the top five industries impacted by cyber attacks in the APAC region, according to the Ensign InfoSecurity Cyber Threat Landscape Report 2024. Active ransomware groups such as ALPHV, BlackCat Gang, FIN11, and LockBit Gang are primarily motivated by financial gain in their cyber attack campaigns. As cyber threat actors continue to target the Financial Services sector, it is crucial for these organisations to remain resilient in their cyber defence strategies. At the summit, Joon Sern L., Senior Director of Machine Learning and Cloud Research at Ensign InfoSecurity, delivered an insightful presentation on "Understanding and Countering AI-powered Attacks." His session focused on the emerging threats of misinformation, deepfake generation, and detection, highlighting the sophisticated tactics employed by cybercriminals and the advanced defences required to combat them. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and attended our sessions at FS-ISAC 2024 APAC Summit. Together, we can build a more secure cyber environment.
