Biography

Meini SU is Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at University of Manchester. She is engaged in teaching at undergraduate level and working in the Structural and Extreme Environments group.

She joined the university in November 2017. Prior to that, she was an assistant professor in Shenzhen University, China. She obtained her Bachelor degree from The University of Hong Kong in the year of 2010, PhD degree from Imperial College London and The University of Hong Kong in the year of 2014.

Her principal research interests, in respect of which she has co-authored one textbook and some 40 papers, lie in the areas of structural testing, numerical modelling and the development of design guidance for FRP strengthened RC structures in marine environment as well as steel and aluminium alloy structures. In particular, through her involvement in the research projects, she has proposed the continuous strength method (CSM) for aluminium alloy structures, a dual-functional intervention method – the impressed current cathodic protection & structural strengthening (ICCP-SS) technique and a green recylcing method for FRP composites.

She is a Chartered engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers. She is also an editor of the Technical Specification of Electrochemical Technology for Durability of Concrete Structures and the FIB Model Code 2020. She is also serving as a committee member of Task Groups 2.6 and 3.4 in FIB, in the technical committee in RILEM (International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures) and the Northwest committee of the Concrete Society.
