    Discover paddlesports with Parks Canada at the Lachine Canal this summer! Whether you prefer kayaking or paddleboarding, canoeing or a voyageur canoe, we have the perfect experience to get you started. Reservation is required.

    Schedule

    Canoe: Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from June 21 to September 1, 2024.

    Kayak: Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from June 20 to August 31, 2024.

    Paddle board: Sunday to Wednesday, June 23 to September 1, 2024.

    Voyager canoe:  Friday to Sunday and public holidays from June 21 to september 1. 2 departures per day at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m..

    A new activity in 2024!

    Would you like to know how voyageurs got around in the fur trade era?

    This summer, take part in an introductory voyageur canoe paddling activity presented by guide-interpreters from the Fur Trade at Lachine and Lachine Canal National Historic Sites!

    On the agenda: explanations of paddling technique, guided voyageur canoe expedition on the Lachine Canal, interpretation of the fur trade, folk songs, and more.

    Schedule and length: there are two departures per day, at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Please arrive at least 15 minutes in advance at the meeting point.
    The voyageur canoe experience lasts 2.5 hours (including travel time and water safety briefing).
    Please allow time before or after the Voyageur Canoe to visit the fur warehouse, depending on the time* of your activity.

    *The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site is normally open from 10 am to 5 pm, but see Opening hours to plan your visit.

  • Lock & Paddle 2024

    Join Parks Canada and hundreds of your fellow paddlers across Ontario and Quebec for this free mass paddling event on the historic canals and waterways. Paddlers of all skills levels and backgrounds will come together July 20 at three participating national historic sites in Peterborough, Ottawa and Montreal for a special event celebrating our colourful community of paddlers. Launch your canoe or kayak alongside new friends and family and come experience this one-of-a-kind event with Parks Canada.

    What is Lock & Paddle?

    Since 2017, Lock & Paddle has been a signature community paddling event held annually on the Trent-Severn Waterway. Lock & Paddle is best described as a ‘flash mob’ or ‘critical mass’ of canoes and kayaks. Visitors of all skills and backgrounds are invited to come together and pack the locks for this one-day event celebrating these historic treasures. Paddlers from all around will travel to be a part of this unique show.

    Lock & Paddle will take place at 3 separate sites in Ontario and Quebec on the same day (July 20).

  • Learn-to Fish

    Fishing is a simple, accessible and fun family activity. This summer, Parks Canada's outdoor education team invites young people aged 6 to 17 to a free learn-to fish activity on the banks of the Lachine Canal National Historic Site.

    During this activity, participants will learn about the biology of fish, the basics of fishing, angler ethics and the regulations and safety of sport fishing in Quebec. At the end of this activity, each youngster will receive a fishing license valid until his or her 18th birthday. Reservations are required.
