Two days ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming Tobias Goldschmidt, Minister for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature in the State of Schleswig-Holstein (🇩🇪) to our hydrogen plant in Porsgrunn.   Officially inaugurated on 10th June, Yara’s 24 MW renewable #hydrogen plant – the largest in Europe – produces hydrogen through the electrolysis of water and #renewable energy, replacing natural gas as feedstock and annually cutting 41,000 tons of #CO2 emissions from the site. 📉   During the visit, the Minister engaged in discussions with our colleagues Reidar Tveit, Pål Klavenes, Dag Ekelberg, and Sigurd Engevik Jørgensen about the opportunities and challenges of #decarbonizing the #nitrogen industry. This sector is crucial for ensuring food security, clean air, and a resilient Europe.   Not only does the German State of Schleswig-Holstein host Yara’s major #ammonia and urea plant in Brunsbüttel, but it also signed with Yara and five other energy-intensive companies a joint roadmap to achieve #climateneutrality. 🎯   Thanks for coming, Minister Goldschmidt, Deputy Ambassador Friedo Sielemann, Christina Lerch, Henning Mümmler, Michael Kern and Thomas Friebel! We are eager to continue our collaborative efforts to ensure a sustainable and resilient nitrogen industry both in Germany and beyond.

This #ThrowbackThursday, we’re celebrating the rich history of Yara UK! 🇬🇧 The roots of Yara UK go back to 1843 when the UK’s founding fathers “The Fisons Group” began producing phosphate fertilizers. 💡   Fast forward to the 1960s and the UK saw a boom in liquid fertilizer production, thanks to innovators like Chafer, who've been designing advanced sprayers since 1907. 📈   Through strategic acquisitions like Fisons, Chafer, and Phosyn by Norsk Hydro, Yara UK Limited emerged in 2004. 👏   For over 180 years, Yara has been a dedicated partner to UK farmers and growers, building a rich legacy of developing and supplying high-quality crop nutrition solutions, services, and agronomic expertise. Today, Yara UK is the only company able to supply the full range of crop nutrition products to the UK market. 👨🌾

Yara's CEO, Svein Tore Holsether, recently spoke with BBC News about the need for collaboration to decarbonize food production while putting farmers first. 🤝 Our partnership with PepsiCo in Europe proves this is possible. Participating farmers will gain access to Yara's best-in-class crop nutrition products, expert advice, and precision farming digital tools. This will help them boost nutrient use efficiency (NUE), increase yields, and reduce their crops' carbon footprint. 📢 Svein Tore emphasized the critical role governments must play by offering incentives for regenerative agriculture practices that prioritize soil health and NUE. Through these incentives, farmers are empowered to invest in the long-term health of their soil, leading to climate-resilient, nutritious crops and higher yields. Last month we proudly inaugurated our 24 MW renewable hydrogen plant at Herøya Industripark AS in Porsgrunn, Norway - the largest of its kind in operation in Europe! 👏 This marks a major step for Yara and Yara Clean Ammonia, a subsidiary of Yara, in driving the decarbonization of the food value chain, shipping fuel, and other energy-intensive industries. 💚 Using renewable energy, the plant produces hydrogen through water electrolysis, cutting CO2 emissions by 41,000 tonnes annually! ♻️ At Yara Porsgrunn, we’ve already reduced emissions by 67% since 2005 and remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering scalable decarbonized solutions. 🌍 But we can’t do it alone! Collaboration is crucial. Together, with significant investments, advanced technology, and robust renewable energy infrastructure, we can achieve the green transition. 🤝 Check out the pictures below, to see the first drops of renewable ammonia produced last fall! These were handed to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and those on the project team to commemorate this historic milestone. 👇
