VALUING CAPABILITIES Today on Labor Day, we shine light on our team in the sheltered workshops. Since the early years, SECRID has been working with social development companies where 152 employees with disabilities work on the assembly of our products at three locations. For us, they are an essential link in the production process: without them, we would not be as successful. That is why we thank them in this video as part of our campaign #ValuingCapabilities. In the Netherlands, there are still 125,000 people with disabilities looking for work. That’s a vast pool of wasted potential, as they are often the best employees for accurate assembling tasks. We need better solutions, and businesses should step up and create them. Therefore, we want to put the value of labour participation on the agenda of businesses in the manufacturing industry, politicians and other organisations involved. Will you join us? What constitutes a ‘better’ design today? Is it about balancing form and function with sustainability? What does this process really look like in practice, and what do we prioritise when the going gets tough? Yesterday, Secrid was part of the B Keeper Day. It was great to connect with other B Corps in nature and inspire to do better together. 🍃

How can we shift the focus of our industries from producing more to producing better? Our founder René van Geer is an industrial designer who has taken on this task since the start of Secrid. René has an extensive international experience, which helped him develop a holistic approach to the design process. He consistently carries this approach into his work at our company. Since the launch of our first collection in 2009, we for example have chosen to manufacture all products as locally as possible, with materials and processes that are ethically and sustainably-sourced. 🚴♂️🌍 On June 21st, alongside 2,000 other participants, 12 dedicated SECRID colleagues will embark on a 125 km ride, tracing a section of the Netherlands' potential future coastline due to sea level rise. Organised by Cycling 4 Climate, the annual Climate Classic event isn't just about cycling; it's about raising awareness and taking action against climate change. Participants are making a personal climate promise and are raising funds for Wetlands International, a foundation committed to preserving and restoring wetlands around the world. Yesterday we hosted an event about the value of labor participation at our heartquarters in The Hague. Entrepreneurs, industry partners and our team from the sheltered workshops were all present to hear Mohamed el Mokaddem (Chairman Cedris), Cathelijn Peters (Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment) and Cees Oudshoorn (Stichting Nederland Ondernemen Maatschappelijk!) discuss challenges of labour participation, but more importantly the opportunities for entrepreneurs. At Secrid we have optimized our production and processes in collaboration with sheltered workshops, so that people with disabilities are part of making our products. To us, they are the best people for this work, and we were pleased for some of them to take the stage to talk about their work and what it means to them. It was once again confirmed that it is high time that we draw attention to this topic. More about this on May 1, Labor Day.
