Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, has issued the following statement on the release of Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey for May 2024:

New funding for one of Canada’s most powerful supercomputers, and the largest research cloud in the country, is supporting cutting-edge research projects in health care, clean energy, neuroscience and climate modelling that will improve people’s lives.

The Province is supporting the development of a new mass-timber production facility that will create 90 sustainable, local forestry jobs in Castlegar and continue to grow to position B.C. at the forefront of this emerging wood-manufacturing and housing-construction sector.

Local governments, First Nations, not-for-profit organizations and manufacturing businesses in northern B.C. are receiving funding that will create and protect jobs, promote economic diversification, clean-economy opportunities and infrastructure development.

New financial support for engineered wood production in Kamloops will protect and create forestry jobs, promote the development of high-quality, made-in-B.C. forest products and strengthen the local economy.

Local governments, First Nations and not-for-profit organizations in the southern Interior region of B.C. are receiving funding to promote economic diversification, clean-economy opportunities and infrastructure development.

New support for manufacturing businesses on Vancouver Island will create jobs, promote the development of made-in-B.C. products and strengthen regional economies and communities.
