All evacuation orders and warnings lifted as Thompson Fire nears containment Sunday

All evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted in Oroville for the Thompson Fire as of Sunday morning as the fire nears full containment. According to Cal Fire's update, the fire is 100% contained after burning 3,789 acres.

With the increased containment also comes reduced evacuations in the area. As of Sunday morning, all evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted.

Cal Fire says crews continue to work on strengthening containment lines, and suppression repair efforts.

Damage assessment from the Thompson Fire has been completed. Cal Fire says the Damage Inspection Team found 13 single-family residences destroyed and five damaged. The team also found 13 other minor structures destroyed and three damaged.

The fire ignited off Cherokee Road, near Thompson Flat Cemetery Road, at 10:51 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2. Cal Fire says the fire jumped the diversion pool of the Feather River and quickly grew to over 2,000 acres, forcing around 13,000 people to evacuate and the City of Oroville to declare a local emergency.

On Wednesday, July 3, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a State of Emergency in response to the fire. Newsom also announced that California secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) to support the response to the Thompson Fire. "The FMAG, which is provided through the President’s Disaster Relief Fund on a cost-share basis, will assist local, state, and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75% reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs," Newsom said.
