Amid ongoing efforts to contain the Thompson Fire, The Salvation Army has orchestrated meals not only for the dedicated first responders but also for the displaced evacuees.

The fire broke out at 10:51 a.m. on Tuesday, near Cherokee Road and Thompson Flat Cemetery Road in Oroville. Officials say the fire has burned over 3,000 acres and has displaced 13,000 people in response.

The Salvation Army has served over 1,000 meals throughout Butte County to support everyone affected by the fire.

400 sack lunches, plus warm meals, have been given to Butte County Sheriff's Officers to help rejuvenate them and show the community's support as they rally around all first responders who have worked tirelessly to keep them safe.

"A meal is one of the most nutritious things they can have, especially when they're working long hours. Being able to count on a non-profit like the Salvation Army, an organization that comes in need during disasters, is extremely important for us. As well as serving those who have evacuated, as they have no other means of nutritious food while they're evacuated from this fire," said Amy Mefford, Emergency Disaster Director for the Northern California division of The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army has dispatched five teams across the North State to aid officials and evacuees. These include the Emergency Disaster Team from Redding, Chico, Auburn, Oroville, and Santa Rosa.

Some evacuations have been lifted. However, the Salvation Army will continue to serve in the county until their service is no longer needed.
