Redding hit a new high temperature on July 6. It’s not only the hottest day of the year, but the hottest day ever charted by the National Weather Service.

This early July heat wave across the Northstate brought unprecedented heat for Redding, with a high of 119 degrees on July 6. The extreme heat also brought an excessive heat warning to valley areas until Monday, July 10 at 8:00 p.m.

The Redding airport gage hit 119 degrees just before 5 p.m. and stayed at 119 until right before 6 p.m.

The previous all-time record was 118 which Redding hit in August during 1971, 1981, and again in 1988. It was also verified by the National Weather Service that Redding hit 118 on July 5. The past record of 118 had been hit four times, before setting a new record.

The heat also smashed July 6 records for the individual day itself. The previous hottest temperature for Redding on July 6th was 111 degrees in 2007. That was broken this year by 8 degrees.

Red Bluff has been recorded to hit 119 in July. Red Bluff’s all-time record high temperature is 121 in August 1981. For the individual day of July 6, Red Bluff had a previous record of 111 degrees and that was broken today when Red Bluff was recorded at 118 degrees.

Oroville also broke their old record for July 6 of 110 degrees by three degrees, with a high of 113 today.

The National Weather Service wants to remind people to be safe under excessive heat temperatures. It is heavily advised to stay hydrated and inside in air conditioning.
