Today is National Intern Day! I met with our 2024 Product and Engineering interns this morning - which is always one of the highlights on my year. I love the passion and energy that interns bring and really hope that each and every one of these interns is back working for us full-time when they graduate. This year we have strong representation from Columbia University, the University of Washington, Oregon State University, the University of Utah, and University of California, Davis. This was an interesting year for interns as there were significantly fewer internships available than in previous years as tech companies have tightened their belts. We had cases at Qualtrics where we had more than 1,500 applicants for intern roles in less than 3 days. I also believe that Qualtrics is a great place to work and attracts great talent. One of the most interesting questions that came up was how I felt AI and GenAI are going to transform the work we do in product, engineering and UX, and how the interns in college right now should think about that. Like other huge technical transformations I have been through, students in college are often getting experience in the technology before the majority of the industry. My suggestions to students still in college should look for every opportunity take classes and experiment with AI so they come of the college with experience and knowledge.
