Elyse is one of our amazing young carers, helping to look after her 6 year old sister who has Cerebral Palsy, global developmental delay and epilepsy. It wasn’t until recently Elyse started to have more responsibilities in her caring role and signed up to Carer Gateway for additional support. “Carer Gateway has helped me meet new people and do some fun activities which make me feel better and more relaxed.” You can see more of her story, plus find more information about support for carers by visiting our link: https://bit.ly/3Wh49lc

Tad is one of our incredible Care Connector clients. He was dealt a tough hand and suffered severe trauma and mental health from his time travelling and living overseas. Upon his return to Australia, he was malnourished, had a decline in his mobility skills and the once jovial man became reserved and quiet. The Benevolent Society’s Care Connector Sherral was Tad’s saving grace. She helped him commence the initial arrangements to ensure he had his basic needs met such as housing, furniture, and clothing. “I lie down at night, I’ve got a roof over my head, clothes on and the support from The Benevolent Society who have made it so easy – it’s wonderful”. Meet Melo! Melo has been caring for his 12 year old daughter Victoria since she was born. It wasn’t until he started the counselling and coaching sessions at Carer Gateway that his relationship and role as carer began to shift. Since being part of the Carer Gateway family, he has devoted his time in the disability sector developing parenting programs for other families while encouraging carers like him to seek support. “Connecting people to organisations like the Carer Gateway where you’re seeing parents who are doing things to support themselves so they can support their children does bring you hope and I think that’s a wonderful thing”.
