In this episode of “Hanwha Spotlight,” we’ll shed light on transformative solutions developed by Hanwha Ocean, a world-class company with a 50-year history that made South Korea into a shipbuilding powerhouse. Hanwha Ocean plans to aid the maritime industry’s energy transition with various decarbonization solutions including high value-added LNG ships that are built using advanced proprietary technologies. One out of five LNG ships sailing on the ocean is made at Hanwha Ocean yard in South Korea, according data provided by Clarksons Research as of June 2024. From June 3 to 7, Hanwha Ocean showcased its green shipping technology at Posidonia 2024, one of the world’s top 3 shipping exhibitions. The company displayed a model of a 93,000㎥ Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC) at its booth, marking a significant step towards the era of zero-carbon shipping ― beyond low carbon. In addition, its large liquified carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers received approval in principle (AiP) from ABS. 📍 Hanwha Ocean Celebrates Milestone with Successful Launch of Wind Maker On 3rd June, Hanwha Ocean celebrated a significant milestone with the successful completion of the key event for launching the Wind Maker, the new Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) ordered by Cadeler Inc. The vessel is an NG-16000X design by Gusto MSC and includes a 2,600 Ton Leg Encircling Crane from Huisman Equipment B.V. of the Netherlands. The Jack-up is designed to efficiently install turbines with capacities of up to 20 megawatts at water depths reaching up to 65 meters, with the flexibility to operate using either liquefied natural gas (LNG) or Ammonia as alternate fuels. This success highlights Hanwha Ocean's ability to take on challenging tasks and reach remarkable milestones in the maritime sector. The successful completion of the key event of launching was made possible by the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of the entire Hanwha Ocean crew. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone whose hard work and dedication contributed to this milestone achievement in the construction of the Wind Maker at the Hanwha Ocean shipyard. ⛑ Hanwha Ocean embarks on constructing accident-free workplaces - Hanwha Ocean signed MOU with DNV for ISRS (International Safety Rating System) certification for quantitative evaluation - Setting the goal of achieving the highest level of ISRS certification within 5 years. Hanwha Ocean has signed a MOU (Memorandum Of Understanding) with Norway's leading quality and safety specialist, DNV, to enhance its safety and health management standards. The purpose of this collaboration is to objectively evaluate Hanwha Ocean's safety and health status and enhance its management standards based on the evaluation results and the long-term strategy formulated accordingly. As part of this initiative, a preliminary assessment of all Hanwha Ocean facilities will be conducted over a period of approximately 3 months. Hanwha Ocean expects this evaluation to quantify its safety and health management status, providing insights into its objective safety and health conditions. Based on the evaluation results, Hanwha Ocean plans to collaborate with DNV over the next 5 years to innovate and enhance its safety and health system. ** Developed in 1974 based on research data analyzing 1.75 million accident causes by Dr. Frank E. Bird, ISRS has undergone nine revisions and is recognized as the world's leading safety rating system, evaluating sustainability beyond safety to encompass societal, environmental, and financial aspects. ISRS evaluates 15 criteria including ▲planning and management, ▲risk assessment, ▲risk management, ▲emergency preparedness and response, and ▲risk monitoring, awarding an 'ISRS Level' rating on a 10-point scale. 🌎 Hanwha Ocean has successfully developed a solution for eco-friendly economic navigation, allowing shipowners to more efficiently respond to environmental regulations. ▲Development of #technology enabling monitoring of ship carbon intensity, applied to recently contracted ammonia transport vessels. ▲Linked with Hanwha Ocean's #SmartShipPlatform HS4 to provide #ecofriendly ship navigation methods. Hanwha Ocean has developed the "Smart Ship Technology" for monitoring the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) of ships, measuring the amount of carbon dioxide emitted during ship navigation and providing eco-friendly navigation solutions to shipowners. * The Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) is a value that quantifies the amount of carbon dioxide emitted from a ship using navigation information such as fuel consumption and travel distance. Hanwha Ocean has integrated this monitoring technology with its own Smart Ship Platform, HS4, enabling automatic calculation of the Carbon Intensity Indicator for ships currently in operation. Furthermore, the solution provides various optimal navigation methods, including speed and route adjustments, to emit less #carbondioxide.
