Founded in 1982, Stone Island is the symbol of extreme research in fibers and textiles, applied to an innovative design.

Chi siamo

A culture of research, experimentation, function and use are the matrixes that have always defined Stone Island: the sportswear brand established in 1982, designed to become a symbol of extreme research on fibres and textiles, applied to an innovative design. Season after season, it is through the study of form and the “manipulation” of the matter that Stone Island has found its own language with the aim of establishing new boundaries in the world of garment making.

Axl Beats wearing 410M3 David Light-TC from Stone Island_Autumn Winter’024, taken from "Community as a Form of Research". Excerpt: Question 24 of 100 What do you want to be remembered for? A legend. A GOAT. Someone that’s left a legacy. Question 57 of 100 Are you organised or spontaneous? Or both? Spontaneous. I tend to make radical decisions at any time. 410M3 David Light-TC: Hooded blouson made of a lightweight tela made with Japanese star-shaped cross-section polyester/polyamide yarns. Parts of the garment are made of polyester canvas. The pieces are assembled and then dyed under pressure at 130°C, with the addition of a PFC free anti-drop agent. During the garment dye process the heat radically transforms the material’s hand and structure. The resulting garments combine an industrial appearance with a unique feel. Stone Island announces the opening of its new freestanding store in Vienna on Kohlmarkt 7. Echoing the brand’s core values in research and experimentation, the 150m2 store follows the global retail concept designed in partnership with Samir Bantal of OMA/AMO, employing innovative materials and processes. Located in the historic centre of Vienna, the store design is in harmony with the building’s architecture, thoughtfully inserting highly researched materials and iconic elements. The original vaulted ceiling is retained, but modernised through the application of a natural acoustic material and Tim Hooijman -designed lights. In contrast, the floors are covered with large marble tiles from SolidNature. The Vienna store features the full Stone Island offering, including the seasonal collections as well as the Ghost, Marina and Stellina ranges, spread across a sequence of four interconnected rooms. The first room echoes the recent Munich and Stockholm designs, with the presence of dark, structured cork, following a process that includes burning, sand-blasting and coating, delivering sound and humidity absorption properties. The second room hosts an array of iconic Stone Island elements, including the Index, the Chamber, and the digital mannequins. Moving on, a red resin floor marks the entry into The Lab, a space providing insight into Stone Island’s research and production processes, with the new crossed lights designed by Tim Hooijman illuminating from the ceiling. Inspired by the community hub in the Stone Island Munich flagship, a fourth space features a rammed earth display wall, with a cutting-edge smart glass display taking centre stage. Crafted together with Gauzy®, an innovative technology enables the glass table top to seamlessly transition from transparent, revealing accessories within the display, to opaque, serving as a surface for garments display.

PROTOTYPE RESEARCH_SERIES 08 MULTIAXIAL_PROJECT A special zine created in collaboration with Capsule to document the design process behind the newest “prototype”, a cape inspired by Stone Island’s very first collection in 1982, comes with each limited-edition piece available starting today at select Stone Island stores: Milan, London, Munich, Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo. The Series_08 fabric is born from a collaboration between Stone Island and three industrial partners that has allowed the modification of some technical treatments to obtain a flexible, translucent and water-resistant experimental material, usable in the field of clothing. The process involves the creation of a multiaxial linen textile base as a natural reinforcement material, subsequent needle-cohesion to a non-woven fabric veil, state-of-the-art inkjet printing with pigments and double lamination of aliphatic polyurethane film. The 100 print artworks - one created per garment - recompose into a large fresco, a dreamlike organic landscape reminiscent of a primordial world. Photography by Alessandro Sorci

Kim Jones wears DIOR | STONE ISLAND 493L419A0759C989 BLACK LAMBSKIN FIELD JACKET: This piece in grainy nappa leather takes inspiration from the 20th century aviator style jackets, with wear these tended to shine or crack, revealing the background colour. To replicate this effect, the use of specific resins and waxes prevent the perfect adhesion of the colour to the leather, this effect is then further enhanced by hand. The colour is then blocked through unique finishing techniques. This process makes each leather slightly different from each other and each garment one of a kind.

Wayne McGregor wears DISSOLVING GRID CAMO ON ECONYL® REGENERATED NYLON: A new artisanal camo created by Stone Island, made by printing through different scales of mesh then photocopying and manipulating the results. The camo is digitally printed on NYLON METAL made from ECONYL® regenerated nylon lightweight canvas, the print slightly shrinking when dyed to create an effect like corrupted seersucker. It’s used on a military-inspired jackets and a vest, as well as a rounded zip-up.  The optical illusion of this camo is emphasised on the Dissolving Grid CAMO MESH ON REFELCTIVE made from ECONYL® regenerated nylon with a double-layer long zip-up coat, which has a layer of transparent mesh over a reflective base, both printed with the same camo but with different placements. #StoneIslandSS24

Presenting a short film about artist Hasani Sahlehe, whose work was shown with Tif Sigfrids gallery in New York as part of Frieze Focus, of which Stone Island is the Official Partner. Sahlehe is an Atlanta-based multidisciplinary artist and educator from St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, whose practice involves rhythmic abstract painting, installation and performance. His interest is in the natural and supernatural, involving surrender to chance and being present in the moment, as seen in his key work “Trying Green”, which is featured on special uniform T-shirts, the first in a series, designed for Frieze personnel to wear at the fair in New York and around the world.
