In other news, I just found out I’ve been chosen as a finalist in the ‘Into the light’ exhibit and Whitewall Art Projects prize this year for my painting ‘Inside out’. Here’s an excerpt from my artist statement: My painting, "Inside Out," oscillates between darkness and hopefulness, mirroring the multifaceted nature of the human experience. The woman's posture evokes a sense of introspection as she navigates her dual existence. The darkness that envelops her carries an air of mystery, while the window's radiant embrace paints a picture of aspiration and yearning. "Inside Out" encapsulates the very essence of the human journey—of being simultaneously exposed and shielded, vulnerable and strong. The title itself encapsulates the core theme, where the individual's inner world is laid bare, unapologetically open to the external universe. It prompts us to reflect on the power of vulnerability, the beauty of embracing our truths, and the profound connections that arise when we allow ourselves to be seen. Through this piece, I invite viewers to explore their own relationships with the internal and external, the self and the world. An exhibition of De László's work is coming to the refurbished and expanded Gainsborough's House in the spring and early summer. This is exciting, not only because of the flair and skill of his portraits, but for his choice of frames. They were very important to him as part of the complete work of art, and sometimes betray, through colour marks at the sight edge, the fact that he almost invariably finished each painting in its frame, in order to bring the whole thing into harmony.
