CUMTA, Greater Chennai Police and Metropolitan Transport Corporation together organized a hands-on training program on “Road Accident Investigation and Data Collection” for 15 officers from GCTP and 5 officers from MTC. The training was conducted by Road Safety Expert, CUMTA, which involved a theory session on the Tamil Nadu Police Standing Orders and standard operating procedure - version 1 for good quality road accident data collection created by CUMTA working group on road accident data collection and analysis. Post lunch a practical session was conducted on a mock accident created. Attendees were presented with certificates of participation along with a gift. In continuation of the “Keeping KCBT Clean and Staying Healthy” training for bus, auto, and cab crew members at KCBT, CUMTA & CMDA have organized ongoing sessions. So far, 656 crew members have been trained in health, hygiene, customer behavior, and finance management. CUMTA’s expert training team led sessions focusing on the key features of KCBT for passengers and crew, emphasizing cleanliness at the terminus and dormitory, and prioritizing the health and well-being of the crew. Engaging physical and mental activities kept the sessions lively, bringing smiles to the crew members’ faces. Each training day, a batch from TNSTC and SETC, along with auto and cab drivers, participated in this interactive training session. Refreshments were provided at the Aavin counter. Attendees received a brochure with valuable insights on cleanliness, do’s and don’ts, health tips, and information about KCBT facilities. Each participant was presented with a memorable memento and a certificate. Feedback about the session was collected from the crew members. CUMTA conducted the first working group meeting constituting all Road Safety and Non-Motorized Transport subcommittee member organizations. The working group is created for improving the quality of road accident data collection and analysis. The members exchanged insights on their approaches to gathering road accident data, analyzing it, and leveraging the findings to strategize interventions. CUMTA shared the need and significance of having a data dictionary, a standard operating procedure for data collection and a minimum data requirement for good quality road accident data analysis. CUMTA also shared draft documents and the members agreed to review the draft documents and contribute to finalizing the data dictionary, SOP and minimum requirements. In line with this commitment, CUMTA, in collaboration with Street Matrix and ITDP - India, is developing a meticulous area-level parking management plan for Anna Nagar. This initiative aims to transform Anna Nagar into a model neighborhood, characterized by well-designed streets, efficient parking management, and safe school zones. The scope of the parking plan is extensive, encompassing a thorough analysis of traffic patterns, parking demand and supply dynamics, existing Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) infrastructure, school access streets, and the implementation of a strategic pricing strategy.
