"It has opened us up to an international and national network of businesses, research organisations and universities", said Dr Kirstie McAdoo, Director of Education & Research at Airfield Estate Thanks to Jane Carrigan, National Contact Point Ireland, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Office, for sharing this very insightful article. For more information visit https://lnkd.in/eYe7Qwi
Are you an NGO or company thinking of participating in a #MSCA Doctoral Network programme? Dr Kirstie McAdoo, Director of Education & Research at Airfield Estate, discusses the benefits. 🔹 What is Airfield Estate? Airfield Estate is Dublin’s sustainable food hub. Located on 38-Acres in Dundrum, Dublin, the working urban farm and gardens are an educational charity open daily to the public to help increase awareness and education around sustainable food and farming. The estate welcomes over 230,000 people each year and engages in national and international research around consumer and sustainable food systems as well as being involved in advocacy. 🔹 Why did you decide to get involved in a MSCA Doctoral Network programme? As an NGO that works with the public, advocates for better understanding & awareness of sustainable food systems, and has an expertise in dissemination, it is essential that Airfield becomes involved in EU projects such as the Doctoral Networks. It is important to keep ourselves at the forefront of modern agricultural thinking and research. It has opened us up to an international and national network of businesses, research organisations and universities. Airfield is a beneficiary of the EnTrust Project which is looking at big Agri data. Our specific tasks are to host a PhD student, host the secondment of another doctoral candidate, lead the Communication and Public Engagement committee and to support the project with communication and dissemination opportunities. 🔹 What are the benefits of participation? Not only have we, as an educational charity, been exposed to the cutting edge of research, we are able to facilitate the placement and research of a doctoral candidate, giving them a unique insight into the practicalities of working in a business whilst conducting their academic studies. The funding has allowed us to travel internationally to share our learnings and insight. We have met other organisations and established ourselves as a useful and innovative partner. It has also allowed us to partner in other EU project proposals. 🔹 Any advice to organisations thinking of getting involved? Do take the leap and jump in, the benefits are exponential. There isn’t a question that we have asked that hasn’t gone unanswered by either the academic leaders of the project, the EU project officer or even the other participants. There’s really nothing to fear! For our company and staff it is a great boost to know we are part of real and exciting research and change in Europe, and for a small organisation, that is really powerful! The synergy between academic and non-academic partners has been great and we have felt listened to and that our contribution is valid and useful. Why wouldn’t anyone want to get involved?! 🔶 The 2024 MSCA DN call deadline is 27/11/2024. For more info on the call and the supports available, visit https://lnkd.in/ebAUh7mb.
