🚨 "Our world is facing a triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. Over recent decades, the production and consumption of plastic, particularly single-use items, has surged. The resulting increase in plastic waste and pollution is a significant and growing threat to climate change, biodiversity, human rights and public health, which exacerbates system-level risks." 🌉 With the need for action now important than ever, we are thrilled to announce that Atlantic Bridge has officially signed the Financial Sector Statement Calling for an End to Plastic Pollution. 🤝 The Principles for Responsible Investment, together with United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), Finance for Biodiversity, Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, De Vereniging van Beleggers voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling (VBDO) and CDP Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, drafted this statement to demonstrate finance sector’s support for an ambitious international legally binding instrument (ILBI) to end plastic pollution and to set out what a robust agreement would include from the perspective of the financial sector. 🧩 This significant step aligns with our unwavering commitment to both sustainability and the environment. 🌐 This commitment is not just about reducing plastic waste; it's about creating a future where businesses and the environment can thrive together. We believe that through collective effort and strategic investment, we can make a meaningful impact on the planet. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e33SPQfc

Thanks NovaUCD for running yet another great Student Enterprise Competition and congratulations to all startups that participated! 🎉 There was a great turnout with many of the Atlantic Bridge team in attendance, including Mia Brzakovic who formed part of the judging panel alongside Gianni Matera of Growing Capital and Richard Twohig of Terra Solar.
Two emerging start-ups, Clia and Orgo, have today been announced as winners of the 2024 NovaUCD Student Enterprise Competition, an intensive 4-week accelerator programme for student entrepreneurs. This annual competition, now in its 10th year, is delivered by NovaUCD as a framework to mentor and support undergraduate and postgraduate students who want to work together to develop and grow start-up companies. Clia, an emerging medtech start-up, was named winner of the €3k Tech Sustainability Prize sponsored by Terra Solar and Orgo, an emerging edtech start-up, was named winner of the €3k One to Watch Prize sponsored by NovaUCD. Clia is developing software-as-a-service which plugs into existing cardiac rehabilitation services to improve support and treatment for people at risk of cardiac disease. Using wearable health data Clia aims to track and provide insights in heart health, offering links to structured exercise services and give check-ups with cardiac specialist physiotherapists. The founders of Clia are physiotherapists, Rory Lambe and Ben O Grady, who are currently research masters students, investigating wearable technology, in the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science under the supervision of Cailbhe Doherty. Orgo is developing a mobile e-learning platform focused on Organic Chemistry to enable students across the academic spectrum to become comfortable with the subject. The mobile app will help students with bite-size lessons and revision questions to ensure success throughout their college careers. The founder of Orgo is Zackary M., a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology undergraduate student in the UCD College of Science. Tom Flanagan, UCD Director of Enterprise and Commercialisation, said, “I would especially like to congratulate the Clia and Orgo teams, who have been announced as the winners of this year’s prizes. We look forward to Clia and Orgo, and the other student ventures, refining their ideas further over the coming months and to hopefully launching their start-ups on the national and even an international stage in the very near future.” The 4-week programme, which uses the Lean Startup and Business Model Canvas approach, included a series of structured workshops and interactive workshops delivered by Raomal Perera, Caitlin Hafer and Nirisha Manandhar from Lean Disruptor. Thank you to our external judge panel members; Gianni Matera founder, Growing Capital; Mia Brzakovic, Investment Analyst, Atlantic Bridge and Richard Twohig, Operations Director, Terra Solar. Thirteen early-stage student ventures and 26 participants completed this year’s programme. ⚙ As a Deep Tech investor across Europe, the UK and US, Atlantic Bridge places a lot of emphasis on ESG and achieving our associated targets. 👩🏫 Today in our Dublin office with the help of Martina von Richter, the team underwent further ESG training, and then reevaluated and refocused our ESG roadmap on our goals in order to achieve a sustainable and successful future. 🌲 The session was then followed by lunch in our adjacent greenery where the team was able to talk further ESG.

Congratulations to Atlantic Bridge portfolio company, Secondmind, for winning the Alternative Powertrain Test Innovation of the Year at the 2024 Automotive Testing Technology International Awards!
"The intelligent automation aspect is a potential game-changer" - Secondmind wins Alternative Powertrain Test Innovation of the Year 2024! 🏆 We're excited to announce that Secondmind is a Winner at yesterday's Automotive Testing Technology International (ATTI) Awards, held at the Automotive Testing Expo in Stuttgart yesterday. Our team was recognized for the Secondmind for Calibration application for e-powertrain. The Alternative Powertrain Test Innovation of the Year category, new for 2024, reflects the growing importance of new-energy vehicle powertrain development to manufacturers. One of the judges, Mohammad Behroozi, Senior Vehicle Dynamicist at General Motors, commented on Secondmind’s solution: "The intelligent automation aspect is a potential game-changer. By drastically reducing manual work and idle time, this efficiency boost could significantly enhance calibration, which is essential for optimizing e-powertrain performance and extending range." Our CEO Gary Brotman, who accepted the award with Chief Product Officer Morgan Jenkins on behalf of the Secondmind team, said: “It is an honor and a privilege to be nominated alongside exceptional companies pushing technology boundaries in vehicle design and development. This award validates the hard work, dedication and creative ingenuity of the Secondmind team, who are motivated by an insatiable desire to build practical, AI-fueled software that empowers engineers to break through complexity barriers and design better, cleaner software-defined vehicles, faster.” Thank you to Automotive Testing Technology International, Automotive Testing Expo and the panel of judges for an amazing event, and congratulations to all those recognized in the awards.
