The ASEAN Secretariat and the Committee of Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) went to China last week to participate the 12th Meeting of ASEAN-China Joint Science, Technology and Innovation Committee (ACJSTIC-12). The meeting was hosted by H.E. Mr Chen Jiachang, Vice Minister of Ministry of Science Technology (MoST) China and attended by ASEAN COSTI Chair H.E. Dr Hul Seingheng. The Meeting covered a wide range of joint cooperation under ASEAN-China, including the introduction of new initiatives which will foster deeper cooperation between both regions. One of the key highlights of the discussion is the ASEAN-China Joint Research Projects, which involved researchers from institutes in China and the ASEAN Member States to cooperate on pressing issues and emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Clean Energy and Electric Vehicles. The second edition of such cooperation will lead to more comprehensive cooperation, creating extensive research opportunities to benefit both ASEAN and China. Besides, ASEAN delegates also have the opportunity to visit some of the scientific industry and research institutions in Chengdu, such as Chengdu Tianfu Software Park and International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Giant Panda Conservation Research and Education, to learn more about China’s scientific advancements in advancing the nation and preserving nature.
