Hate to be that girl, but that was over 8 years ago… 😭 time flies.
They’ve got much more granular with Bluetooth and Network sharing permissions. The idea is they want to make users recognize that some hardware makers are being overly aggressive (or lazy in scoping) with their implementations.
Craig actually talked about it for a bit during the Daring Fireball post-WWDC keynote interview.

Just use the “Report” button to handle obvious harassment like what we see (saw) just above. Much faster and doesn’t clutter the timeline and give people like this more of a platform.

Here’s a new one for me: auto selection of an image in the photos app. This one is a photo I took of the USS Constitution (“Old Ironsides”) in Boston Harbor in 2018.
I was scrolling through and noticed that selection was occurring without any intervention from me as soon as I dragged to get the photo’s metadata. I suspect it’s because it’s marked as a “Landmark” in Photos.

I’ve noticed that as well and wasn’t sure what was happening as I haven’t used that selection feature much since it came out.
I’ve done a bit more “research”. It seems to be a means to feature a particular landmark. I’ve gotten it to work on the US Capitol and the Washington Monument. But it seems limited to the US, as it does not work on my photos of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris or the Shard in London.
This is working in iOS 17. Demonstrated using Westminster Abbey in London.
I think they started the auto selection/highlighting thing with iOS 17 when they added the new system stickers and remove subject from background features.

Yes; iPad OS b2 is entirely different that what I have been seeing, here (much closer to iPad OS 17.x.y)
I was wondering if that might have been the case. Another of Apple’s many not really announced or promoted features. Thanks for clearing that up.
I think the OS is doing it automatically for third parties, ie a white (or coloured) background is being swapped out for a black background. I guess icons where they are too complex for this to work are just being dimmed.
Doesn't work for Microsoft Teams and apps with white color used for other parts of the graphics.
Strangely it doesn't work for the Apple Store app icon for me which has a pretty simple white background.
Even more strangely is that the Apple Store app icon IS dark for me. There’s a few others that are now dark but apps like Teams or Spark are not. Yet. Soon!
Still no Select All / Delete All button or at least a swipe gesture like in the Photos app to mass select photo / video attachments in Messages 😭 am I the only one that deletes attachments? It’s a true pain in the ass having to tap on each photo one by one in an endless list of photos
Yes but then you need to tap on each photo individually to select them which can take forever if I don’t clean it out every day or week 🔫

The colour of the Dock and folder backgrounds is now determined based on the app icon appearance you've selected (light / dark), rather than whether the system as a whole is in Dark / Light mode.
This means that it is possible to have a dark Dock & folder backgrounds whilst the system is in Light Mode, as long as you have dark app icons enabled (and vice versa).
Doesn't look too bad in Light Mode but I imagine If you want the 'classic' Dark Mode appearance (i.e. light app icons with dark UI elements) it looks a bit off.

Yea not a fan, also they added a terrible looking dark filter to all your apps which which makes them all look like they have had a poop filter applied to them. I really hope that’s a bug that they fix in the next beta as it’s one of the most terrible things Apple has ever done.

When creating a reminder in the Reminders app via Siri on CarPlay, you now get a different dialog showing the reminder created. I think this has more detail than in iOS 17. But Siri is still Siri (and messed up "forum" to "for him"). 😂
