Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo has conveyed Indonesia's readiness to host several international championships in 2025.

He said that these events include the World Surf League, the World Rally Championship, the World Abilitysport Games, the Gymnastics World Championship, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

"World championships that we routinely have, such as MotoGP in Mandalika, Aquabike, and Power Boat in Toba Lake, and next year's MXGP will also continue to be held," he said after a meeting with President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Ariotedjo said that the 2025 World Surf League will be held at seven locations, including Bali and West Nusa Tenggara. Meanwhile, the World Gymnastics Championships will be held in Jakarta and the World Rally Championship in North Sumatra.

"The UFC is also planned to debut in Indonesia in 2025. As previously known, UFC organizers have been visiting Indonesia since the end of 2023," he added.

Ariotedjo said that Indonesia is also ready to host the 2025 World Abilitysport Games, similar to the Paralympics, which will be attended by participants in wheelchairs from representatives of various countries.

Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said that the holding of international sports events in Indonesia in 2025 must be oriented toward bolstering the community's economy.

He said that the estimated budget needed to organize international events in Indonesia next year is Rp500 billion to Rp1 trillion (around US$59 million).

"The President asked us to hold quality sporting events within the framework of sports tourism. This international event surely drives the economy, but it must be held as efficiently and effectively as possible," he said.

Referring to Indonesia's experience of hosting the MotoGP series in Mandalika, he said that the economic potential generated from the event reached Rp500 billion. Related news: MotoGP Indonesia promotes Mandalika as sports destination: Thohir
