From start-up to scale-up 🚀 Matr Foods is an outstanding example of how an early-stage start-up can leverage BII's financial support, business development expertise, and general infrastructure to accelerate its entrepreneurial journey.👏 Matr's current customer base comprises several B2B contracts with Danish restaurant chains, including Gasoline Grill and Sticks'n'Sushi, and with the online supermarket nemlig.com. With the recent news of an initial investment from Novo Holdings, the company can take one major leap further in its development, says Christian Brix Tillegreen, Director of Planetary Health at BII. "By attracting this new funding, Matr can execute on its promise of scaling production and expanding to new markets." Reaching this stage so fast wouldn't have been possible without the support of BII, according to Randi Wahlsten, CEO of Matr Foods. "Getting BIIs support through Venture Lab and Venture House enabled us to be where we are today. With BII's support we have gone from a product idea to a successful initial launch and we have build the production and our team up to a place where were are now ready to take on the world – or at least to take on investment to really scale our production." Congratulations on the great news to the whole team at Matr Foods. We can't wait to follow your development in the future.🌱 You can read more about the initial investment here: https://bit.ly/464lpyH Arnoud Klokke Benjamin Hamelmann Julie Riisgaard Cordes Maria Henriques de Jesus Petar Todorov Anders Østerby Mønsted Katrine Villarreal Villumsen Jens Nielsen Bobby Soni Thomas Grotkjær Anders Spohr Jens Termansen, Nikolaj Madsen, Sune Legaard Olsen, Eric Heilig, Katharina Henn, Ivan Horacio Rosano Gazca, Efraín Hernández Morales, Emil Kleis Boll, Tine Møller Vestergaard, Miikka Inkinen, Lucas Oliveira, Andreas Hansen #entrepreneurship #funding #investment #foodtech #scaleup #startup

Following Monday's launch of the ambitious strategy for the 'Innovation District Strategy, today we had the pleasure of hosting Lord Mayor of Københavns Kommune Sophie Hæstorp Andersen for a more in-depth introduction to BioInnovation Institute and our innovative start-ups.🚀 This visit was the perfect opportunity to showcase our pivotal role in the ecosystem and our contributions to driving economic growth and job creation. During her visit, Sophie met with three inspiring start-ups: FÆRM, which is revolutionizing plant-based cheese by mimicking dairy fermentation.🧀 DIASENSE, which harnesses quantum science to pioneer new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.🧠 Droplet IV, which has developed an IV line that automatically flushes to relieve overburdened nurses.👩⚕️ At BII, we are excited to support even more groundbreaking start-ups within the new Innovation District Copenhagen. We look forward to continued collaboration with Copenhagen Municipality to further enhance our vibrant ecosystem.🏢🤝 Jens Nielsen Marianne Philip Jonatan W. This morning, the Danish Government announced a new entrepreneurship strategy that seeks to make Denmark a leading entrepreneurial nation. At BioInnovation Institute (BII), we are pleased to see that a number of the initiatives outlined in the strategy have the potential to directly improve the conditions for the start-ups we support. "We are glad to see that the government's new entrepreneurship strategy has a strong focus on supporting life science and deep tech start-ups. With earmarked government funds for more green venture financing, a strengthening of technology transfer offices at universities, and the ambitious plans for Innovation District Copenhagen, a solid foundation has been created for Denmark to grow as a world-class entrepreneurial nation," says Jens Nielsen, CEO of BII. BII has already supported over 100 start-ups, which have raised over DKK 4.2B in external financing. However, it remains a challenge for start-ups, especially within biosolutions and industrial biotechnology, to scale their businesses in Denmark. Thus, the government's offer of better conditions for the development, testing, and validation of promising biosolutions can mean more start-ups succeed in commercializing their research. Especially when more risk capital is also allocated to support early-stage start-ups, for example, by strengthening Export and Investment Fund of Denmark, by making the framework for match funding permanent. After the Summer holidays we are ready to unveil a fresh lineup of stellar start-ups that can benefit from this strategy.🚀 Read the full strategy: https://bit.ly/3VDZvPj Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Ministry of Higher Education and Science Skatteministeriet Danish Industry Dansk Erhverv DTU - Technical University of Denmark Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark Aalborg University Aarhus University Katrine Villarreal Villumsen Anders Østerby Mønsted

STRATEGY LAUNCH OF INNOVATION DISTRICT COPENHAGEN🚀 We are pleased to see the commitment of Københavns Kommune, Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen and the Danish Government to work together on further strengthening the life science and quantum ecosystem located at the heart of Copenhagen. Today here at BioInnovation Institute (BII), many stakeholders launched a new collaboration with the aim to create a new ‘Innovation District Copenhagen’ for life science and quantum technologies. At BII, we bridge the gap between academia, industry and the health care sector. Thus, we are keen to play an important part in developing 'Innovation District Copenhagen' along with several instrumental institutions. "We see a lot of potential in building an epicenter within the life science and quantum ecosystem to continue to attract talent, create new workplaces, and spark economic growth - all in the pursuit of ‘bringing ideas to life and research to market’ that will benefit people and society," says Jens Nielsen, CEO of BioInnovation Institute. Since BII's inauguration in 2018, we have created 600 workplaces and supported more than 100 start-ups that have raised DKK 4.2 billion. This clearly shows the innovation potential in Denmark, and we are more than ready to take the life science and quantum ecosystem to the next level.
