Today, members of the Regional Development Committee (Regionala utvecklingsnämnden) in Region Skåne visited our science park as part of their ambition to visit stakeholders that are key for growth of the region. Petter Hartman provided an update on the Skåne life science cluster and its challenges. A tough financing climate and a shortage of expertise were highlighted as areas where the sector is struggling today. But there was also room to highlight some good news, such as the launch of the new scale-up program “10xHealth” (in collaboration with SmiLe Incubator), as well as the latest addition to our science park’s property portfolio – a 12,000 square meter laboratory building representing an investment of about half a billion SEK, which will open up for its tenants in the second half of 2024. During the meeting, it was emphasised that collaboration between public, private, and academic actors is necessary to ensure a strong life science climate going forward. This includes a joint effort to: - Strengthen the conditions for clinical research. - Invest in preventive and health-promoting measures. - Invest in the supply of expertise in the future. - Facilitate internationalisation and commercialisation. At Medicon Village, we look forward to continuing to develop Skåne's life science sector, in close collaboration with our politicians in Skåne. #collaboration #lifescience #sciencepark Region Skåne | Region Skåne – utveckling & innovation | Skånes universitetssjukhus (Skåne University Hospital) | SmiLe Incubator

In 2016 the Stämm saga began! Fast forward to 2018, we’re a squad of 7 Stämmers. IndieBio, the powerhouse of biotech accelerators, hits us up – Yuyo Llamazares Vegh and Federico D'Alvia Vegh get the call. By 2019, we're 17 strong, cutting the ribbon on our very own lab in Buenos Aires. Looking back to those times we could never forsee the place we are at now. In 2020, with 25 Stämmers on board, we realized we were short in space, it was time to expand. Lab, offices, and workshops, we created the ideal space for our stämmers to put their disruptive ideas to the test. We entered 2021 with 70 Stämmers – that's almost triple! Hard-working people attract like-minded teammates. Research and development blooms under interdisciplinary teams. In 2022 we've hit 170 Stämmers! Multiplying faster than we can count, a solid teamwork framework helped us grow without losing our focus. And now, in 2023, we're wrapping it up with 216 unique Stämmers, each of them bringing singular talents to the table. Talk about spectacular growth! #StämmGrowth #ExponentialGrowth #TeamGoals #biotechnology

Sometimes SIZE really matter....... In the big scheme of things, Denmark and Sweden are just small countries – yet if we join forces, we could do so much more together – to the benefit of our patients, hospitals, life science companies and both nations’ economy. However, there are still several obstacles, which our politicians can help solve and thereby help pave the way for exploring the significant potential of e.i: * Being able to do cross-border clinical trials with larger cohorts and thus attracting more trials from foreign direct investors * Joining forces by exploring the synergies within our mutual ATMP initiatives – thus making our region a powerhouse of ATMP R&D and commercialization * Supporting making our region a global front-running hub of research and innovation within Women’s Health (broadly) – thus lowing inequality in health and health research, lowing society's costs and loss of workforce, creating a fertile ground for start-ups within Women's Health, attracting talent and investors... whilst helping the only majority in the world; girls and women. I applaud and appreciate the Swedish Minister of Health Acko Ankarberg Johansson for taking time out to discuss the potential and the challenges of cross border collaboration within the healthcare and life science sector together with great Nordic representantives Emelie Antoni from AstraZeneca, Damir Konakovic from Sigrid Therapeutics AB and Anker Nystad Wittendorff from Arjo Nordics. A big thank you to the Swedish Ambassador Charlotte Wrangberg and Business Sweden for inviting Medicon Valley Alliance for this discussion. Our mission is exactly to strengthen this Swedish-Danish collaboration, growing the pie bigger for both countries!
