This paper considers some fundamental properties of antennas and the antenna cables. Any change in the characteristic impedance of an antenna system causes a reflection of forward RF energy, representing a discontinuity. Every connector, every kink or compression in a cable, etc. can produce a more or less significant discontinuity.
