Info

Data are key to inform migration governance, improve programming and promote a better public understanding of migration. Timely data on migration are often scarce, making it difficult for decision-makers to develop effective migration policies. Even when migration statistics do exist, policymakers may not make full use of them, because data are often scattered between different stakeholders and between different countries. Sharing data effectively is often just as important as collecting data. Poor presentation of migration data can contribute to misperceptions about migration, and can distort public opinion. Better analysis and communication of the data are needed to promote a balanced debate on migration issues.

Migrant journeys to Europe reveal stark gender disparities: 82% of respondents are male, while women are more prevalent along the Eastern Mediterranean Route (27%), often with children. 🚨 Many migrant women flee from personal violence (arranged marriages and domestic abuse) while men cite economic reasons more often. This highlights the urgent need for protection and support. The main needs of migrants include employment support 💼 (45%), documentation assistance (25%), legal services (13%), and health care (10%). Children face heightened risks with 73% reporting issues like hunger and violence during their journey. Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) | 🔗 https://lnkd.in/euSyMtN5
