The partnership between these pioneering companies will combine Orbray’s innovative approach to scaling SC chemical vapor deposition (#CVD) diamond with E6’s proven large area deposition system and expertise in making high-purity SC diamond, to deliver a reliable supply of high-quality, wafer-scale, single crystal diamond for key applications, including #6G #wireless components, #advanced #power and #RF #electronics, #sensing, #thermal #management, and #quantum devices. The founder of Element Six, Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, once said: “No great industry can prosper without fundamental research”. I’m very proud to say E6 embraces that vision as much today as it did then more than 70 years ago. Yesterday I had the honour to give a speech at the 74th De Beers Diamond Conference at University of Warwick in front of students who had spoken on point defects, electrochemistry, gemology, geology, spin physics, precision machining and drug delivery. And, at the end, they cheered….. England had scored.

It was great to be back representing Element Six at the 74th UK Diamond Conference at the University of Warwick, catching-up with collaborators past and present. A fantastic array of oral and poster presentations representing the breadth of academic and industrial research, from the fundamentals of point defects through to innovations in applications. Daniel Twitchen summarised the critical value gained through this event in his conference dinner address, quoting Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, "No great industry can prosper without fundamental research". With invited lectures from Suzette Timmerman on sublithospheric diamonds, habib saridikmen on the novel applications for PCD in mining an engineering, Rachel McKendry on the use of quantum nanodiamonds in disease diagnosis and Helena Knowles on using spin in diamond for quantum bio-sensing, the value and passion of the community of this conference is a strong today as it was 74 years ago. Congratulations to the student prize winners Pei Zhao, Ian Morris and Helen Witkowska on their excellent presentations and thanks to the organising committee for delivery of another remarkable event.
