🔥 “You need years of education and ongoing training and support to be a lawyer, a pilot or a nurse. You don’t get anything to be a politician. We think that needs to change.” ➡ Check out this interview by Missions Publiques highlighting our work on political leadership: https://lnkd.in/eFGDE-PU Chief Operations Officer Kimberly McArthur and Head of Projects Hussam Al Erhayel discuss: 🔑 Key initiatives of our work at the Apolitical Foundation; 🗳 What the EU election results say about the state of our democracy; 🤔 How participatory approaches can better our politics; and 🏆 Our recognition of Missions Publiques as a “Pioneering Practitioner”: https://lnkd.in/dzwCS8tS Cc: Ariane Ioannides, Camille Dobler, Antoine Vergne

I am honoured that Locale Learning has been featured in Apolitical Foundation's list of organisations to watch this year. The third annual report highlights the current trends on the movement of political leadership entrepreneurs, many of which reflect the story of Locale Learning. When I started Locale Learning, I hadn't even heard of the term "political leadership entrepreneur". But when I did, it was incredibly validating to connect with a global network of like-minded people who are committed to make a difference in the space of political leadership. A few things resonate with me about the current trends: 🔶 First up, women are leading the change - in our team, this is certainly the case, with three out of the four of us being women. 🔶 Next, most organisations are small and operate with very limited staff. This is true for us too - whilst we are very active in the space, we are effectively a small start up biz operating on a very lean structure. It may surprise you, but I do Locale Learning on the side of other work and my biz Locale Consulting. 🔶The thing that does set us apart is that we've always provided support for elected representatives after they are elected. This is where we see the biggest gap, particularly once the few months of induction training are over and new councillors are still finding their feet. 🌟 We are excited to announce our partnership with Women LEAD, a new US-led initiative aiming to close the gap in women’s political leadership and tackle barriers in political and public life in the digital age: https://lnkd.in/efSReYuT 🌐 Launched at the recent NATO 75th Anniversary Summit, Women LEAD brings together governments, philanthropy, civil society and multilateral organizations to advance women’s political and civic participation globally. 🔍 The initiative focuses on the unique challenges and opportunities of AI and technology on women's political leadership—a discussion we started at Davos (pictured) and expanded on in our "Pitfalls and Possibilities" report: https://lnkd.in/eTUMuNdD 🌍 The Apolitical Foundation will contribute by supporting the Political Leadership Entrepreneur Network (PLEN), a non-partisan, global community of 80+ organizations working to cultivate diverse and more prepared political leaders, with a strong focus on women and other underrepresented groups. More about the organizations in the PLEN: https://lnkd.in/emxYUm3Y We’re proud to join this initiative alongside philanthropic and civil society partners: Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The International Foundation for Electoral Systems, International Republican Institute’s Women’s Democracy Network, National Democratic Institute (NDI), #ShePersisted, Women Political Leaders (WPL) and Daniel Sachs Foundation. #Poll: Politicians face immense pressure, and public perception doesn't always match the reality of their roles. By staying informed and engaged beyond the election cycle, we can better understand the scope of their decisions and the reasons behind them. #PollQuestion: Do you try to stay up to date with the actions and decisions made by your local political leaders? 🗞️ Definitely - I keep up with most of their activities and decisions. 🗞️ Maybe - I hear bits and pieces now and then. 🗞️ No - I have no idea what they’ve been up to.
