Domestic Violence / Protection Orders
Douglas County Courts hear domestic abuse protection orders, harassment protection orders and sexual assault protection orders. The relationship you have with the person you are filing against determines the type of forms to be completed and filed.
This chart will help you determine what protection order may be appropriate for you:
Forms are available on the Nebraska Judicial Branch website, through this webpage, or at the Clerk of the District Court Protection Order Office.
To Submit Completed Forms, you may:
- Come to the Douglas County Courthouse and FILE the completed and notarized Protection Order Forms. Office hours are 8am-4:30pm
- Mail your completed and notarized Protection Order Forms
- IF completing in person please bring a valid government issued I.D. that contains a picture and signature. The affidavit must be notarized.
(Plan on approximately one hour if completing paperwork in person.)
Every protection order is served by the Sheriff's department. The order is not in effect until it is personally served.
Once the protection order has been served, the Respondent has 10 business days to notify the Court if they wish to contest the Protection Order. You will receive notification of any court date and time that you may need to attend.
