#HappyMonday Tails from the Pujada Bay reef  🐠🐟🐡 Welcome to the underwater paradise of #PujadaBay. Monitoring and documenting the regeneration process of our reefs is a key part of what we do. We love to witness the arrival of fish and other aquatic life after our installation is in place and this is made possible through our partnership with Stream Ocean .   Their HD cameras take a fish eyed view of what’s going on under the surface 24 hours a day and their amazing footage provides a lot of the information we need to review the success of our #rrreefs.   We will share updates from our underwater cameras on a weekly basis this month so stay tuned for more tails from the reef.   🔎 🐠 What fish can you spot in this clip, and which is your favourite?   📹 installer team: the DOrSU

This footage from our camera in Fulhadhoo, Maldives, showcases the bustling activity of countless fish species swimming above and around the reef. The abundance of fish and a diverse community of species are crucial for the health of these underwater ecosystems 🪸 Why is this diversity so important? Fish play key roles in maintaining coral reef balance: from keeping algae in check to contributing to nutrient cycling and supporting coral health. By protecting and preserving this rich biodiversity, we can ensure the resilience and survival of coral reefs for generations to come. #biodiversity #underwatermonitoring #streamocean #marineconservation #coralreefrestoration

At Stream Ocean, our mission is to provide state-of-the-art Biodiversity analytics, all automatically generated by our AI using video data. Join us as we delve into the essential indices that gauge Biodiversity: 🔍 Species Richness: Unveiling the variety of species within an ecosystem, showcasing its richness and intricacy. 📊 Species Evenness/Abundance: Beyond mere numbers, this metric evaluates the equitable distribution of species, crucial for ecosystem stability. 💡 Species Diversity: A holistic metric combining richness and evenness, offering a deep insight into the balance and variety of ecosystems. 🔄 Jaccard Similarity Index: Our AI computes this metric to compare species sets, revealing similarities and differences in ecosystem compositions. These metrics are fundamental in biodiversity studies, providing crucial insights into ecosystem health and resilience. We're eager to hear your thoughts as we continue to refine our analytics, please share any feedback in the comments 🌊📈 #StreamOcean #Biodiversity #MarineMonitoring #AI

Here’s footage from our cameras in Barbuda. Fun Fact! In this video, you can witness a Porcupinefish (Diodon hystrix). This species is very well known for its capability to transform itself into a spiky ball when threatened 🐡 Indeed when the Porcupinefish feel in danger it inflates itself by swallowing water. His spines, which usually lay flat against its body, then stick out and create a defense against potential predators. This Porcupinefish is one of our many visitors in our Barbuda project, follow us if you would like more updates on our projects. #marineconservation #coralnursery #biodiversity #biodiversität #biodiversité

March 20 is World Rewilding Day! 🌍 Today, let's explore the significance of rewilding. From urban areas to remote wilderness, rewilding emerges as a crucial restoration method, addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges. 🖇️ Rewilding focuses on restoring natural processes and wilderness areas, allowing ecosystems to thrive without direct human intervention. Its goals include promoting biodiversity, restoring ecological balance, and enhancing resilience. Human activities like habitat destruction and pollution are driving biodiversity decline. Rewilding revitalizes ecosystems, transitioning us from degradation to mass restoration, bringing back essential services like clean water and air quality. In our oceans, rewilding is essential. Seagrass meadows and mangroves serve as vital carbon sinks, combating climate change. Ocean rewilding protects marine life from human interference. Let's safeguard our oceans, halt destructive practices, and ensure a resilient planet for future generations through rewilding efforts. #StreamOcean #StreamFoundation #WorldRewildingDay #OceanResilience

Insights from our latest project in Zanzibar! 🌊 We are thrilled to share more insights from our collaboration with marinecultures.org 🖇️ We look forward to witnessing new species and adding colorful videos to our rich library. In this video, you can see four Yellow-breasted wrasses (Anampses twistii) exploring the coral nursery. With their stunning blue bodies and elongated snouts, the Anampses twistii adds a pop of color to coral reefs! Did you know these beauties are protogynous hermaphrodites? 🔄 Starting as females, some may later transition to males. Talk about fascinating! But that's not all – they play a crucial role in reef ecosystems by keeping small invertebrate populations in check. Let's protect these vibrant creatures and the reefs they call home! 🌏💙 #marinemonitoring #biodiversity #StreamFoundation #coralreef
