Confidentiality & Ethical Standards
Therapist and clinical trainees at CAPS are expected to adhere to the Ethical Standards and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association (APA)
This commitment to ethical standards includes protecting the confidentiality of therapist communications with clients. CAPS is legally and ethically bound to keep client/therapist communication confidential. We therefore do not share client information with parents, professors, ecclesiastical leaders, BYU Honor Code, or any other outside entity without express written consent from clients.
Exceptions to confidentiality exist only when the life of the client or an identified other are in jeopardy. Clients are encouraged to talk about concerns regarding confidentiality with their therapist.
