Carbon Alpha, an energy company co-founded by #CDLMentor Patrick Elliott that is focused on finding carbon storage solutions, is working with the Meadow Lake Tribal Council to develop a groundbreaking carbon dioxide removal (CDR) project to generate 70,000 high-quality carbon credits. The project, called North Star, is Canada’s first majority Indigenous-owned high-quality CDR project. The scholarship, which was created with the guidance and support of #CDLRockies AgriFood stream Founding Partner and Fellow Alison Sunstrum and in partnership with MindFuel.ca, aims to contribute towards closing gaps for underrepresented individuals in #STEM. It's open to Grade 12 students planning to enroll in an undergraduate STEM-related program at an accredited post-secondary institution located in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba. Dr Caley Shukalek, CMO of PurposeMed, credits the mentorship he and his team have received through the University of Calgary innovation ecosystem in helping his executive team build skills and tools to increase internal efficiencies as their company grows. PurposeMed participated in the 2023/24 Haskayne ScaleUp program and has received funding from the UCeed Health Fund, which connects patients with specialized clinicians to receive compassionate care from home. “I'm trained as a physician. Getting the right people in one room to take an innovative technology and turn it into a viable solution for industries' challenges is rare, but it's what happened to with #CDLAlumni Impossible Sensing Energy Inc.'s co-founders Ariel Torre and Pablo Sobron when they participated in CDL-Rockies. IS Energy uses advanced technology to develop measurement solutions for oil and gas producers.
