The BC Active Transportation and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Design Guide has five guiding principles. PRINCIPLE 5: ATTRACTIVE AND INTUITIVE ✔ What does this mean? TODs and their adjacent public spaces should include a range of design elements, landscaping, public art, and other amenities that make them attractive, enjoyable, and welcoming for people walking, cycling, and using other forms of active transportation. This also includes intuitive wayfinding such as signage, pavement markings, and universal design elements, such as static tactile information and bilingual information where contextually appropriate. HUB Cycling's Bike Friendly Building team of experts can help you employ this principle in your next bike-friendly development. Did you know that e-bikes now make up around 17% of users in mobility lanes and multi-use paths in Metro Vancouver. Or that 10% of ambulance calls in Vancouver are as a result of injuries on local roads. These are just some of the many learnings I gained from attending the BC Active Transportation Summit on behalf of HUB Cycling What a great way to gather insights from different communities across BC to help HUB continue on its mission of getting people cycling more often. #atsummit

The BC Active Transportation and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Design Guide has five guiding principles. PRINCIPLE 4: COHESIVE AND DIRECT ✔ What does this mean? TODs can bring key destinations together into development sites through the expansion of existing networks, can create activity hubs, and offer direct, convenient access to a range of amenities such as housing, shopping, services, and entertainment. Active transportation integration builds on this design concept to provide multi-modal access to these cohesive, mixed-use developments. HUB Cycling's Bike Friendly Building team of experts can help you employ this principle in your next bike-friendly development.
