  • #ICYMI: Electra Aero's eSTOL aircraft takes off from almost no runway! Electra.aero recently demonstrated the capabilities of its hybrid-electric test aircraft, the EL-2 Goldfinch, showcasing its ability to take off from extremely short runways. In a video released by Electra Aero, the eSTOL (Electric Short Take-Off and Landing) aircraft successfully lifted off from less than 170 feet during its trial flight, which is only about 10 percent of the typical runway length required for conventional aircraft. The aircraft achieved takeoff and landing speeds of around 28 to 29 miles per hour, thanks to its innovative "blown-lift design" that uses eight small electric-powered propellers, allowing it to get off the ground with minimal speed. Operating primarily on clean electric energy, the Goldfinch produces only 75 decibels of noise at 300 feet, noticeably quieter than traditional airplanes. Its hybrid design also cuts pollution, using 40 percent less fuel on a standard 100-mile route. Learn more and watch the video ➡ https://lnkd.in/exMwUjCN

  • Two weeks ago, our Chief of Staff - Theodore Robson, attended Sealand Flight's historic event in Campbell River, BC. Sealand Flight has successfully completed Canada’s first electric commercial flight with their Pipistrel Velis Electro, marking a monumental step towards a sustainable future of aviation in Canada! Sealand Flight's Pipistrel Velis Electro is powered by two 200-pound batteries, and offers nearly 50 minutes of emission-free flight time, making it ideal for training sessions. This advancement not only slashes our carbon footprint but also reduces operating costs. Impressively, the 45-minute flight costs less than $2 in electricity! During the event, Theo had the pleasure of speaking with 15-year-old Edwin Clements, who had the honor of flying on the inaugural flight. Meeting inspiring individuals like Edwin is one of the highlights of our work, and we are eager to see where his piloting dreams will take him. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Sealand Flight team for this incredible milestone. The warm welcome we received in Campbell River has fueled our excitement for the future of sustainable aviation in Canada.
