Yesterday, B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) joined the celebration of a new joint venture between Westport Fuel Systems and Volvo Group. Thousands of Volvo trucks already run on Westport’s fuel system. But these two companies are only just getting started. CICE is pleased to invest in this new partnership by contributing to a project that aims to double the range of H2-HPDI equipped long-haul trucks - making a great innovation even better. Thanks to Terry Beech, Daniel Sceli, Brenda Bailey, Fazil Mihlar, Sarah Goodman, Patric Ouellette, Matthew Blackman, and Lars Stenqvist for all you do to support the acceleration of pathways to clean energy innovation. #hydrogen #cleanenergy #innovation #britishcolumbia
Festivities abound as we officially kicked-off the Volvo/Westport HPDI joint venture yesterday at the JV’s new home setting, Vancouver, Canada. We marked this momentous occasion with invited customers, key stakeholders and executives from both companies. Guests had the opportunity to see a Volvo FH internal combustion engine pilot truck in action rolling into UBC’s Smart Hydrogen Energy District (SHED) refueling station. The HPDI fuel system technology is already available in Volvo’s gas-powered trucks and offers a great transition alternative for fleets to reduce its climate impact today. “Today we celebrate the further validation of the HPDI technology with the establishment of the joint venture between Volvo and Westport to further accelerate the adoption of the HPDI system by the world’s global diesel-cycle engine manufacturers.” says Dan Sceli, Westport CEO and interim president of the JV. And, a special thank you to our guests and speakers: The Honourable Terry Beech, Minister of Citizens’ Services, JEDI’s Minister Brenda Bailey and Deputy Minister Fazil Mihlar; Sarah Goodman, CICE, CEO; Patric Ouellette, HTEC, Vice President, Infrastructure; Matthew Blackman, Volvo Trucks North America, Managing Director and Lars Stenqvist, Volvo Group, Chief Technology Officer. Thank you for your participation and thoughtful perspectives on clean energy innovation.
