The LEGO Shop at Home service listed 78 pieces in this set, but the North American canister listed only 76. The latter is the accurate count, according to the Bill of Materials in this set's building instructions.

While working on 4953 Fast Flyers, I also got to make the little Biplane in this set. The pontoons are connected upside down which revealed my secret identity as a LEGO fan.

My first 'exclusive' set. Blue bricks were added to the inside walls so that we could make a very different inspiration model on the back of the box to show the modular concept. This was a good compromise since the original idea was to make the modulars a 3in1 concept. Curious side-story: Steve Witt unveiled an 18-story ultimate Cafe Corner (with 64 mid-sections) to highlight the expandability of the system.

Bricklist notes
The first sketch model was more symmetrical with two bay windows. The grandfather clock was originally meant to hide a part of the wall that was supporting an exterior detail. Even though that detail was removed, we kept the clock in. The fire escape was one of the most enjoyable parts to figure out. The red flower arrangement on the balcony distracts the eye from the fact the windows are not symmetrically positioned on the front. Finally, the curious boy scout has nothing to do with me being an Eagle Scout ;)

A cool roof function became amazing with some help from my Technic friend Anders Gaasedal. It was fun 'hiding' black arches in the car to make the bucket of the front-end loader. Curious fact, the B-model Flat-front truck uses almost every brick in the box and also has more building instructions than the main model.

The mannequins have smiley faces, but they were rotated 180 degrees to give a little privacy to the man without pants in the changing room. The toy house on the upper floor is a micro version of a classic Creator House. My enthusiasm for using new parts is on full display where the new arch is used 22 times!

Co-developed by Morten Graff-Wang and myself. A smaller version of this cockpit function was originally designed for 4953 Fast Flyers but never made it into that set. It was extra fun activating the two light bricks in the engines with the same trigger. I did not get to work on either of the b-models.
