Today's random set is 10182 Cafe Corner, released in 2007. It's one of 3 Creator Expert sets produced that year. It contains 2056 pieces and 3 minifigs, and its retail price was US$139.99/£88.09.
It's owned by 5686 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Bow in respect for the king!
Probably one of the best-known sets of the past 20 years. Modulars at present (as I'm getting more into structures than vehicles), but this is an epic set. I think the only one I even looked at was the Fire Brigade, and ended up not getting it.
It's weird, I don't own this, never even seen it in person, but I look upon it with nostalgia because its been 12 years.
Ah, the first Modular Building. Still looks good from the outside, although the interior is nearly nonexistent.
Interesting how you could combine multiple ones into one massive building, wonder if anyone ever actually did that.
The great thing about the modulars is that you can put the oldest and newest ones together, and they'd both still look great next to each other.
Yay, a RSOTD I have. I got this for my 8th birthday and built it with my dad.
It feels wrong to call this "random". Café Corner is far from random!
I saw the picture before reading the article title, and for a brief second thought it was being re-released and shrieked with joy. :P
I'd snatch that thing up in a second if they ever did that. Same with several others of the modular series.
Nice and pleasant, gives me flashbacks of drooling over all the modulars on Shop @Home, dreaming of playing with them, giving those Bobs* a happy life... My favourite was the Grand Emporium. Maybe when I find and sell some rare antique...
*ever since LEGO Universe gave the generic minifig on LEGO's online media (spottable right here under gen025) that name, the classic smile and the name Bob became inseparable (or at least that's how it seemed on the LMBs)...
It has some neat qualities, but it is far from my favorite.
I don’t own it, but bricklinked my own copy 6 years ago. In the end I never built it. I do have all of the pieces sorted into my collection though. I grew tired of it since everyone and their dog had it or takes about it. Less unique I guess..
Sadly I missed the boat on this one, so I’d love it if they re-released it with an updated interior.
There's no updating the interior. It had none. I would love to see a new one that reflects the modern modular style.

One of the best models ever for sure. The interior left blank is great for creativity and some folks have done wonders with it. Google Lego 10182 interiors for folks who are interested.
@Saffroth: I wasn't sure what you meant, so I looked up pictures of the back of the box, and I see what you mean. I've seen videos of the floor repetition thing done at some shows (to sometimes absurd extents), and home setups that do the basic "two sets side by side" combination.
But what pleases me most about the back of the box is the inclusion of a suggested alternate build, which also rings incredibly ironic because none of the Creator Expert-branded Modular Buildings have one (I know, due to R&D costs and also people who would demand instructions for them).
Kinda weird how the Cafe Corner was the only one that really embraced the name Modular Buildings before they were even ever called Modular Buildings.

Boy does this bring back memories of drooling over this in the LEGO catalog. The one set that I always wanted but never got. I didn't start collecting the modulars until around 2013, and now I've made sure to buy each one before it gets retired (this year I'll be buying the Assembly Square)... but still missing the first few, and the one that I regret never buying the most is of course the amazing Cafe Corner that started it all. Hopefully one day they will rerelease it.

I think some 10 years ago somebody sold this set together with 10190 Market Street on a second hand website. Both new and sealed (!), because he accidently ordered them twice on the Lego website. I bought them for €450, already back then a very good price! In the end I never opened the boxes and sold them for much more a few years later... Sounds stupid, but I only sold them after contacting the same person again and buying his other (opened) copies of these sets.
So I own both sets ánd did a good deal on the sell and re-sell :-)
I don't have the space, for this big modulars, and I could never really afford them, either.
(it was either the modular buildings, or the Winter Village, but not both. I stand by my choice)
Having said that? The Cafe Corner is just one of those sets where I will *always* regret that I didn't buy it. Always.

One of the few modulars I don't own. And I am really dissapointed I do not have one.

Cafe Corner was love at first sight for me... Even with no interior, the outside speaks for itself! When I came back from my dark ages it was already discountinued, priced at Usd 700.00, but I had to have this masterpiece! So, I've ended up going to bricklink and build it for a much more reasonable price, with full interiors and some modifications, for instance, I've built a garage on the 1st floor! Magnificent set, for me it represents the recouver that Lego made from the early/mid 2000 crisis that the brand suffered!
This set has started something special in LEGO history… on the other hand I don't regret not owning one. GG is a different story tho, oh damn how much I want it released again...
Got it the day it came out and have never regretted it for one second, a true classic.
Love it. This set started me down that slippery slope that I knew it would once I got it. Didn't stop me getting 2 though.

I would love for them to re-release this Modular. It came out before I fell firmly back into Lego.
And I always appreciate giving the online scalpers/speculators who want to charge $3000+ for this set a screwing.
Wish they would make this or a version of it for those of us that missed out. I would even be happy with something that just payed homage to it. Maybe change up the colour scheme and design slightly as there are obviously new pieces and techniques currently.
A dream I know as its likely never to happen. Got into the LEGO game to late to be fortunate enough to own a number of the earlier sets.

I really, really like the aesthetic of the modular buildings like this, but I don't anticipate ever owning one. That said, I'm perfectly content just to admire from afar ^^
I actually didn't give this set much thought when it first came out; it was around the time I was falling out of Lego, so it just didn't catch my eye. It's only now, several years on, that I can really appreciate it, and imagine what an EXPERIENCE it must be to build such a big set as this.
Also, things I just noticed: is that detailing in the arc over the door made of minifigure ski pieces? I love clever parts use like that :D
Ahhhh a classic. I was a kid when this came out and thought myself "too young" to build it- I'd rather have had SW sets back then anyways. Dad had contemplated buying it figuring at some point I'd get into modulars… several years later and he was right but didn't buy it.
I've drooled over the older ones and considering making MOC variants but I just don't think I could ever do this one justice....

OK, maybe I'm overdoing it a bit, but really, this is such an epic set. This has definitely been, apart from other Creator Expert and UCS sets, extremely high on my wanted list. I was thrilled to see it was the random set for today!
I remember seeing this set constantly sold for $119.99 at retailer's online stores (like TRU-yes TRU, Walmart, Target, and Amazon) because, apparently, people did not want to pay 139.99 for it. Those were the days.
I remember seeing this in the Brighton Lego Store when it was released, and immediately bought it because of the amazing details (rare at that time)
Little did I know, it would turn into a series, and the pain it would cause my wallet over the next 12 years collecting them all!

Perfectly timed; found someone near me selling this set complete for £15 yesterday. Messaged them after it had been up for less than an hour but someone else got there first

I bricklinked mine years ago, spent about $600 for all original parts... very expensive but looks great!
