Featured BrickList Compiled by Bjarke. Updated 16 February 2024. Contains 137 sets.
Hello. My name is Bjarke Lykke Madsen and I have Designed models for The LEGO Group for more than 26 years.

I have a background as a Machinist and as a Mechanical Engineer. After my study, I took up my childhood interest in building with LEGO Bricks as a hobby. Later, I applied for the job as LEGO Designer and began 1. August 1997.

Over the years I have worked on more than 30 different LEGO themes and designed (or co-designed) more than 130 LEGO sets.

It has been my pleasure to work together with so many wonderful and multi-talented creative people both within model-design, graphic-design and sculpture-design. All of them are great colleagues and many of them I am proud to call my very best friends.

It´s important to emphasize, that making a new LEGO set and bringing it to the marked, is a very complex process that involves the skills, knowledge, experience and enthusiasm from hundreds of LEGO employees in many different departments: Design, Marketing, Building Instruction, Production, Packaging, Distribution and more. The goal is to make each LEGO set the best possible building- and play experience for our customers, and it only becomes possible, because everyone is working together to achieve this.
For this reason, and because I am a very strong believer in fairness, I have credited the colleagues, that I have worked together with on the various sets.

When new LEGO sets (that I have designed) have been released, I will continue to update this list with information that I hope will be interesting to kids, parents, newcomers and longtime fans.

    Enjoy & kind greetings - Bjarke :)

Designing a "classic" LEGO Pirate set was truly great and a good chance to include iconic LEGO bricks such as the barrels, the treasure chest, the cannon & flags and classic looking models such as a raft and a soldiers tower. We used the shark in one of the other models in this product line, so that´s the reason why, I included the octopus in this LEGO set.
Graphics was designed by Djordje Djordjevic and the Octopus was designed by Niels Milan Pedersen.

Nik Groves (Creative Lead) and me made a list of key words to describe, what we aimed for with this model: castle, château, ruin, mansion and Victorian. Nik then came with the idea to include a greenhouse with a meat eating plant and with these things in mind, I started sketching the model.
I wanted the mansion to look old and worn down, so I got the idea, that some of the windows in the greenhouse should look "broken." I went on with the tower containing the main entrance, the balcony, the clock and lastly the wing containing the kitchen and the safe. For the steep angles on the roof´s, I was mainly inspired by castles and houses from East Europe. To make the mansion look more unique, we decided to make all the roof´s Purple. I had a lot of creative freedom designing this model, and that made the experience extra fun for me.

Later it was decided, that a Dracula LEGO minifigure should also be included in this LEGO set. I thought that was awesome, because I have been a fan of Dracula since childhood :)

Graphics was designed by Djordje Djordjevic and The Mummy Coffin was designed by Niels Milan Pedersen.

I had already designed one other big LEGO set containing the combo of a large animal and a large build (ref. set 79018). Furthermore the dino pit in this LEGO set had several similarities with a castle (high walls, strong gate, towers etc.), and LEGO castles I also had designed several versions of, so I think, that it might have been reason why, I got chosen to design this LEGO set.
I any case, I love dinosaurs and building a "modern castle" to contain the biggest of them (Indominus Rex), was a lot of fun. I thought it was cool to reuse the diamond shape for the layout (last time used in set 7097) and this way make the front wall, with the main gate, long and visually impressive.

Another great and funny aspect of designing this LEGO set, was to play with the Gyrosphere and to design a launching function for it.

Funny note: The lab on the first floor, far in the back, is my homage to the LEGO set I designed for the third Jurassic Park movie (set 1370) way back in 2001. When I make a build like that, the main goal is about the play. The homage part of it, is just an added bonus. But it´s great to achieve both.

Graphics was designed by Austin William Carlson and Indominus Rex was designed by Stew Whitehead.

When I began working on this LEGO set, I knew nothing about the Angry Birds univers, but I ended up really liking it. The style is so cozy and funny looking and the colors are so bright. I also really like the Angry Birds movie and the scene in the movie, that this LEGO set is based on, is just hilarious.
I never imagined, that I one day would have to build a LEGO tree with Pink leaves, but life takes you in funny and weird directions sometimes:)
Graphics was designed by Paul Constantin Turcanu and the Angry Birds characters was designed by Carsten Lind.

The idea for LEGO BRICKHEADZ was pitched by Austin William Carlson and the first launch was for Comic Con 2016. I attended Comic Con back in 2012. That was an fantastic experience, I will never forget, so it was great to design a LEGO set for this event four years later.
And furthermore more so, because Superman and Wonder Woman are some of my favorite characters.
The biggest challenge designing this LEGO set, was "shaping" Wonder Woman´s hair.

The Knightcrawler is a highly-specialized vehicle, that have two different modes: (1) Normal driving mode and (2) Crawling mode. This way, it serves Batman as an all-terrain tank. The biggest challenge designing this LEGO set, was making the four legs strong enough, so they would withstand being pulled and turned from one mode to the other without breaking apart. And not only that, but designing them in such a way, that they could be built by kids at the age of seven.
To achieve this, I literally tried all hinges in the LEGO assortment of bricks and I tried ten (or so) different ways of building the legs, combining LEGO System- and LEGO Technic bricks until, finally, I had a stable solution. My special thanks to Henrik Andersen for great inputs in this regard :)

I am particularly proud of how each section, that holds the legs together, is locked all the way into the bottom of the cockpit. This construction makes the vehicle extra strong during play.

This LEGO set contains the Dark Grey Mother Box that together with the White (from set 76085) and the Dark Red (from set 76087) gives "ultimate power."

Adam Siegmund Grabovski designed the first sketch model of the Joker-Car. It was awesome and quickly got chosen to be included in the LEGO Batman movie and to become a LEGO set. Adam had other design tasks, so I was asked, if I would continue working on it. I said yes, well knowing that Adam (in my opinion) is one of the best designers of LEGO cars. For that reason, I tried all I could to keep his design, but at the same time make the model more build-able for kids aged 8 and adding functions like: the suspension (using 2x2 elastic bands) and two spring-shooters hidden in the back of the trunk and various other details. As I recall, Adam was (when I asked him later) pleased with the result.

It was of course a great experience for me to see the model on the big screen in the LEGO Batman movie :)

Based on a sketch model designed by Adam Siegmund Grabovski.

I had worked on LEGO Batman two times before (in 2006 and 2012), but I never had the time to design a Batwing, so being asked to do this model, was a great opportunity. Oskar Jonas Norlen had done a lot of different concept drawings of various Batwings and out of those, one was chosen as the favorite. It was just a small thumb-nail, but it looked great and my task was to turn that design into a build-able LEGO model. That took five big loops and many months, and it was no doubt, the biggest challenge I have had in my 20 years as a LEGO Modeldesigner.

The biggest challenge was the two rotating engines located on each side of the plane between the body and the wing. I wanted the simplest, possible solution, so I tried a normal cross-axle (from LEGO Technic) but they where too thin to lift the weight of the wings. Kurt Kristiansen (from LEGO Star Wars) convinced me, that I needed to be able to attach the wings to a 1x16 Technic beam. Only that would be stiff and strong enough. I knew, that the only way to make that happen, was to use the big turn-disk (again from LEGO Technic) and that defined the final size of the plane.

Funny note (1): the little buggy in the back of the plane is included so Robin have a vehicle of his own and it is also my homage to the LEGO buggies, that was in the back of so many LEGO Spaceships from the 70´and 80´, that I had so much fun with as a kid :)
Funny note (2): I loved to watch the LEGO Batman movie on the big screen and it was a very special experience to see the LEGO Batwing being present in so many scenes. - And to discover that all the LEGO Designers was credited at the very end of the movie : )

My special thanks here goes to Mike Fuller for countless, long- and constructive dialogs on how to achieve the best result. What a great time, that was : )

The first sketches of the helicopter in this LEGO set, was originally intended for another purpose. I changed the colors and details on the helicopter completely to apply a high-tech look to the model and thereby tailor-made the helicopter for Cyborg.
I am especially pleased with the play feature, where you can take the two weapons / equipment off the helicopter and put in the hands of the Cyborg LEGO mini-figure.
We also designed a totally new, round net, that can be launched from the helicopter to capture Reverse Flash.

Killer Frost was added at a later stage in development and I thought it was appropriate, that she should have a snow removal vehicle with an ice cannon on the back.

This LEGO set also include a Blue Energy Infuser. Together with the Red (from set 76096) and the Green (from set 76097) these three infusers can be used to play/pretend that Lex Luthors Mech (in set 76097) gets “powered up.”

This is the first LEGO set ever to include both The Flash and Reverse Flash as LEGO minifigures. Awesome :)

Bricklist notes
I began by building the cockpit. The Benatar has more organic shapes than The Milano, and the cockpit is at an angle position. I reused the decorated cockpit from set 76081, but also realized, that this would not be wide enough to allow multiple minifigures to be taken in and out the cockpit in a easy way. That gave me the idea of opening the rim around the cockpit (instead of the cockpit itself) and to make a small space scooter that would fit two minifigures. The scooter could when be taken in and out easily and that would also add a nice play-feature. And yes, I was inspired by a function in set 6986 from LEGO Space Police :)

Then I quickly sketched up the body of the ship to have a sense of scale and to have something to attach the wings on. I knew, that the wings, do to the angled position they have, would be the biggest challenge in the set, so once I had sketched the profile of the wings, I worked on the attachment-principle. My idea was to use 3,2 snaps and just let the wings "rest on a shelf" underneath. This also fitted the shape of the body of the ship. And this principle worked fine, but the weight of the wings pulled the body apart do to the walls of the body not being strong enough !
So, I used a plate 1x8 to bridge the two walls and to make a stop of the back-hatch. I also reinforced the walls on both sides with brackets and plates, and finally the construction was strong enough to hold the wings.

We thought it could be cool, if consumers could play, that the heroes load the Infinity Gauntlet into the cargo bay of the Benatar, and this way transport it out of Thanos´ reach. Furthermore we made it so that this set can be combined with set 76102, to form an ever bigger spaceship. My special thanks here go to John Cuppage (designer of set 76102) for the fun times we had making this possible.
Of all the LEGO sets I have designed, this is truly one of my favorites.

We thought, it would be cool to design a different type of vehicle for Batman, so I came up with the idea of a 3-wheeled motorbike, and by placing two wheels in the front and one in the back, I managed to make it look really powerful.
We wanted to include Ace the Bat-Hound in this set in the same manner as we had included Superman´s Dog Krypto in set 76096. Wherefore I made room on the side of the motorbike, so that Ace can stand there and assist Batman on his missions.

Together with set 76111 and set 76112, this was the first LEGO set to include the new Bat weapons- and elements that allows customization of the builds and minifigures.

It was really cool to get a chance to make a small set based on the dream sequence from the movie. The highlight in this set is of course the Batman minifigure in the Desert suit, made exclusively for this set.

LEGO set 65572 was a combo-pack of 3 exiting LEGO sets: 4855, 4856 & 4857.

I think, that the new packaging that wraps the 3 set together, is done really nice, with the webbing that goes from Spider-man´s head in the top, right corner and then out, framing each set.
Futhermore, the box have a nice handle in the top, making it real easy to carry.

Set 4855 was designed together with Lars Krogh & Raphael Pretesacque.
Set 4856 was designed together with Raphael Pretesacque.
Set 4857 was designed by me.
