Review: 41605 Thanos

Four new BrickHeadz based upon Avengers: Infinity War were revealed a couple of weeks ago. They appeared to receive a fairly positive reaction on the whole and 41605 Thanos was the subject of particular praise.

Turning a notoriously brutal character such as The Mad Titan into an adorable BrickHeadz figure is a fun idea and I think it has been executed extremely well in this set.

The Completed Model

BrickHeadz display bases have been updated once again for the Avengers: Infinity War range and now lack a printed tile featuring the series number. I think this was a wise decision as assigning a series to each character was already becoming confusing, particularly with the introduction of Seasonal figures which lack a printed series number. The plain black base looks much cleaner so I hope this design is used consistently from now on.

Thanos is significantly larger than a standard human in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but follows the traditional BrickHeadz template here. I would be interested in seeing a larger BrickHeadz figure at some point but maintaining a consistent scale is helpful for display. Instead, Thanos' features bulkier arms than most characters which demonstrates his superior size and strength, much like 41592 The Hulk from last year.

Lavender pieces are used for Thanos' skin. These match his skin tone in the movie quite closely and I like the printed 1x4 tile depicting wrinkles on the villain's chin. The studded surface on top of the head looks a bit strange in relation to the surrounding tiles, although using tiles everywhere would perhaps have looked equally odd as Thanos' head is not entirely smooth in the movie.

Clips are used to form the hands on most BrickHeadz figures but Thanos includes defined fingers, constructed using 1x1 and 1x2 slopes. This is perfect for the Infinity Gauntlet which is built using just eight pieces but suits the established BrickHeadz visual style. I like the pearl gold tooth that forms the thumb and the printed Infinity Stones are excellent, although the black 1x2 bracket to which they are attached would look much better in pearl gold.

The black hinges on Thanos' shoulders could also have been replaced to match the rest of his dark blue attire, although they do not look entirely out of place as the character's belt and legs are primarily black as well. I like the mixture of dark blue and pearl gold across the torso, particularly on the printed breastplate. In fact, finding that the accents were gold surprised me as they appear flame yellowish orange in some official images.

Overall

The Thanos bigfig does not look happy with his BrickHeadz counterpart but I think it looks fantastic! Several major features of the character have been replicated on the BrickHeadz figure, ranging from his wrinkled chin and bald head to the crucial Infinity Gauntlet. This accessory looks very blocky but is instantly recognisable and I love how the Infinity Stones have been simplified to nothing more than six colourful spots!

It has already been established that the BrickHeadz are certainly not to everybody's taste but this is a wonderful example of the style and I would therefore recommend adding this figure to your collection. 41605 Thanos might even be worthy of consideration to those who have not previously expressed an interest in the theme.

I think people who don't like the Brickheadz should buy one. Pick your favorite character rendered in a Brickheadz and grab it. They're cheap. They're fun. Before I had one I thought they were ridiculous and couldn't figure it out... I got one as a gift. I think I have 12 now. They're great!

I bought the Joker one for really cheap, around $3.

Still think they are overpriced and stupid. lol

However I really like how this one looks, the color is a perfect match to his skin tone in the movie.

I like this, and as I have a captain America brickhead, It would be like a scene from the infinity war movie I'll stand them face to face, on my shelf...

This does put a smile on my face, 10/10 lego..

Personally, I don’t care for it. It’s too simple for me. I would have preferred for him to have his helmet on. I like the effort they put into including the infinity gauntlet but it just looks too wierd. Definitely a pass for me

um, yeah, if they were going for a purple Zoidberg from Futurama, I'd snap that up in a second...

Knowing nothing about all that Superhero stuff this figure appeals even less to me than all the other more well known BrickHeadz. At least it looks better than that silly Chewbacca.
But as for those not previously interested in the theme, I would rather recommend buying a figure (on clearance maybe) that offers more pieces for the money, like Belle, Joker, Black Widow, etc. Then again, at clearance prices, most of the BrickHeadz offer quite good value for money. I haven't got too many as I am only interested in some as parts packs, but those that I got ranged from 4.99 Euro to 6.99 Euro, which is really fair.

Utterly ridiculous - these things go from bad to worse.

These are neat brick parts packs but until I get the ones I want (Palpatine and the make a Brickhead) I am not buying anyone.

LINK_O_NEAL, I bought it online. It was so cheap because the box looked like it was run over by a truck. I also found a Beast at Walmart clearance for $2.50.

They really should only be $6-8 and they would sell a lot more of them.

Also I'm glad they got rid of the tile. I found it useless. I really like the new stand for these more than the first series.

I love how simple it is, and it's the only one I would consider buying. I don't have any money for it though. I can only buy one large model, and I'm caught between Ninjago City, Carousel, and the new y-wing (if it even exists).

The placement of the stones on the guantlet look upside down to me, and he has brought back those awful Hulk arms! Definitely a weird one.

I'm actually quite disappointed to see the printed series plate go, it added a little bit of collectibility. I was not however for the change in numbering they did half way through. It should have been consistent. I will still buy them though. Just wish they didn't release so many convention exclusive ones. Alternate colors are fine, but exclusive characters kind of sucks.

I hate to be a party pooper, but The infinity stones go on his knuckles, not his wrist. So you may want to turn the infinity stone tile piece around to match the gauntlet.

@Cloaked, I think his fist is curled. That's a thumb on top, meaning the piece is the right way up.
