Review: 76223 Nano Gauntlet

76191 Infinity Gauntlet has achieved incredible success, which naturally raises expectations for the excellent 76223 Nano Gauntlet. Beyond the obvious colour changes, this design introduces unusual building techniques, forming accurate mechanical details.
Differences between Thanos' majestic gauntlet and Tony Stark's equivalent are therefore surprisingly numerous, although their great quality appears consistent. Reaching the same standard as the Infinity Gauntlet would be impressive.

The Completed Model
Designed by Tony Stark, the Nano Gauntlet features the familiar colour combination of dark red, pearl gold and silver, associated with Iron Man. Various metallic elements are accordingly included, although significantly fewer than in 76191 Infinity Gauntlet. Nevertheless, these colours are appealing and demand several new parts, such as metallic silver 2x4 wedge plates and pearl gold satchels.
Unlike its predecessor, the Nano Gauntlet is roughly life-size, but I think these look fantastic on display together. While the Infinity Gauntlet was forged for Thanos' left hand, the Nano Gauntlet fits on the right, so presents a pleasing symmetry between the models. Additionally, I like their clearly contrasting colours, ensuring the matching Infinity Stones stand out on both gauntlets.
The model measures 31cm in height on its display stand, consistent with the Infinity Gauntlet. However, the Nano Gauntlet is slightly narrower, particularly nearer the base. This reflects the proportions of the source material, while the smooth shape also corresponds with the onscreen weapon and diverges from the textured Infinity Gauntlet.
Despite their outward similarities, the interior structure differs between 76191 Infinity Gauntlet and 76223 Nano Gauntlet. Some equivalent features remain, such as clever use of 1x2 bricks with bars to reverse the direction of studs, but the distribution of brackets and bricks with studs on the side is unique, containing more hollow spaces than Thanos' gauntlet.
The combination of dark red and metallic silver panels is effective, especially because the few light bluish grey elements are nicely disguised. The wheel arches surrounding the Mind Stone, for instance, blend with neighbouring pieces. Furthermore, the distribution of golden highlights corresponds with Tony's gauntlet from Avengers: Endgame.
The frame around the Time Stone appears more conspicuous, although more because of its large size than its colour. Nevertheless, the Time Stone and Mind Stone are each removable, which is potentially useful for display. The smaller stones are less accommodating, integrated closely with the model.
While not ideal, difficulty in detaching these Infinity Stones was definitely a worthy compromise. Pearl gold satchels are employed to outstanding effect here, accurately recreating details from the film. The satchel straps are secured beneath the flanges on roller skate elements, which is unlike any building technique I have encountered in an official set before!
The palm lacks such complexity, but incorporates wedge plates and ingots to produce intricate texture. I like the mechanical detail on the inner surface of each finger too, even though fewer pearl gold elements should be visible. The pearl gold 1x2 plates with bars should be dark red instead, although they have not been available for a couple of years in that colour.
Each finger includes multiple joints, permitting extensive motion. However, recreating Tony's 'snap' is difficult. The thumb cannot move inwards very far because the whole digit is shorter than on 76191 Infinity Gauntlet. The arrangement shown below appears reasonable from the opposite side, but the gap between the finger and thumb is noticeable.
Shortening the thumb leaves fewer gaps than were present on the Infinity Gauntlet, while the lower section also impresses in that regard, despite its unusual curvature. 1x2 grille slopes fill potential spaces, lining up beautifully with metallic silver bands along either side. The shape of those bands is imperfect, but unavoidably so, at this scale.
The gauntlet is displayed on a simple presentation stand, matching the Infinity Gauntlet and Helmet Collection sets. The angular design looks superb and I like the printed plaque, which includes the familiar Infinity Saga branding. Such consistency across the range is appreciated.
Overall
76223 Nano Gauntlet definitely achieves the same quality as its predecessor, even improving upon 76191 Infinity Gauntlet in some regards! The shaping is exceptionally accurate and I like this colour scheme very much, although this model contains fewer appealing elements than the golden Infinity Gauntlet, inevitably.
Nevertheless, the Nano Gauntlet looks marvellous on display and the construction around the knuckles is exceptional, framing the Infinity Stones nicely. I think the price of £59.99, $69.99 or €69.99 currently shown on LEGO.com represents fair value, although I expect that will increase because the Infinity Gauntlet shares the same price, which is reported to rise imminently.

I picked up several Infinity Gauntlets on sale at Target because they’re great parts packs. I don’t know if I’ll do the same for this thing if the inflation adjustment is too much.

The anatomy of the hand especially where the thumb is not good.
Chunky and awkward fingers and palm.
The golden infinity gauntlet has better hand shaping. More natural.

I suspect it's the sort of set that you know if you like it at first look, with the biggest question being "does it work reliably", which really needs (and has) video(s) to prove.
That's not to say the usual excellently detailed article wouldn't be most welcome of course!

Well, for one thing, Huw and the other Brickset reviewers can only review the sets that TLG sends them.

We prioritise timely reviews as much as possible, which sometimes means certain reviews must wait until after others have been published.
In the case of 10303 Loop Coaster, the set arrived later than usual, so we chose to prioritise the 90th anniversary sets. I am intending to publish the Loop Coaster review relatively soon though.

The set looks neat. Do I need it since I have the other one? Debatable. The cost increasing makes me not want to get this since I don't have the plans to get it anytime soon and don't want to pay more for it later thanks to LEGO increasing their already inflated profit margins.
But I like the set otherwise.

They can review any sets they want. They just reviewed a vintage set that they are in no way going to get sent a free copy for. But why go out and buy a copy to review when you know a free copy will show up sooner or later?
It feels very awkward to look at that photo which shows both gauntlets. They’re positioned the wrong way round. ;-)

Is that a new 45 degree 1x2 tile piece on the lower section of the gauntlet? I can’t come up with any part combination that would achieve that shape. It’s the dark red thing that’s perfectly aligned with the metallic silver stripes on side of the lower end of the gauntlet.

Also, 76191 is a great set. You definitely need to break it out of whatever type of 'pile' you have it in and build it. You won't regret it, and perhaps find som relief. ;)

I’m not sure if this is the part you’re referring to, but if it’s the angled tile on the palm side right above the thick silver stripe, it’s just a pair of 2x2 45° tiles (same as below the four knuckle gems) tucked under the silver macaroni-ish tiles.
Having missed the original Infinity Gauntlet set, this one will do nicely. Also it'll make a great companion piece to my minifigure scale (or rather, bigfig scale) Nano Gauntlet.
The price isn't too hard to swallow compared to the newest Star Wars wave, but just might wait for a minor 10-20% discount - not currently too high on my list.

You can still get the Infinity Gauntlet. It's still at retail price on lego.com
Target still has it and Walmart has is now a few dollars cheaper too.
