The themes I've always enjoyed are Castle and Pirates--grew up with those themes since my childhood. My first sets (incomplete now) also include the ones before the minifigure was introduced.

Since licensed sets were introduced in 1999, I've collected sets primarily from "Star Wars" and Batman/DC Universe. I only have a few from "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit".

I'm not part of any LEGO fan group, but it might be fun to participate in one locally someday. A recent article here on Brickset says there is a LUG locally near me. I'll need to check that out.
