Simply an all-time great Star Wars set!

By in United States,

Best version of the MTT, hands down.

Now they just need to copy it in blue and gray for a Separatist Army variant. But sadly, that will probably never happen since they botched the design on the 2014 rehash, and any Separatist Army variant will be more like that.

I think the MTT needs a re-make.

Such a great set. They don't get much better.

Better yet, just re-release this, no changes. Well except for maybe the Droidika, that can be omitted. LEGO can't seem to make those things look good past 2003, unless of course LEGO wants to just go back to that design because it's wonderful.

By in Australia,

My second favourite set of all time, after 10255. A colleague of my dad's gave it, along with some other Star Wars sets, to me after her son entered a dark age... for free. We offered her payment, but she refused. Her loss I guess, but I felt quite lucky that day. And it was in reasonably good condition too.

But yeah, this set is just phenomenal, even if you take out the nostalgia out of it.

Random set for today hitting me hard in the feels! Such an awesome set!

By in United States,

Ah... the set that pulled me into LEGO Star Wars and the second set I bought after coming out of my Dark Ages! I remember buying it in Stockholm during my work assignment there. Must have been 2007. What a great set! I ended up buying a second copy before it retired.

I'm sick and tired of this irrational hate for 75058. It has great minifigures and a more consistent color scheme than 7662 & 7184 which have a bunch of other colored bricks mixed in. 75058 is at a lower price point and was designed well for that price point. With seven years of inflation 7662 would cost well over 10$ more. I have more to say so will edit later.

One of my favorite sets. Got it for Christmas on a nice sale iirc. Remember calling it a battle pack, because it was the fifth set with the character logo on the front with the 'build your army' quote.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can’t remember if I got any minifig-scale MTT besides 7184, which, to put it mildly, is simply a garbage set. Designing it to open up into a sub-par playset rendered it worthless as a vehicle as well.

By in United States,

This one...this one I have wanted for a long time. The year 2007 was a rough year for my collection since I was finishing high school and starting college. But I never forgot it. Several sets from that year eventually got remade for the better, but not this one. Of course, now this set is mega-expensive to obtain brand new, and I would worry a bit about brittle brown bricks to a certain degree. Still, so much was done right with this set that I can't help but admire it. One day, perhaps!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this is the one I had! Loved it. Properly imposing, cool play feature, and of course, a ton of battle droids.

Almost 7,000 owners (of which I am one). That’s a Battle of Naboo I’d like to see.

It is tough to top this version of it. And if they did remake it, it would be $100 for 700 pieces and 6 battle droids.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally! Definitely a personal favorite. I refuse to believe that any future MTT will EVER live up to this.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I like the prequals but somehow I don't like the vehicles in movies that much. Then again, this looks majestic with it's size and 21 droids.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly the best version of this vehicle, managed to get one of those gold C-3PO minifigs with mine, found out when I finally opened it a few years ago

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A great, imposing looking set, looks nice and solid despite requiring a lot of hollow space inside

Lucky you!

I like this set a lot as well, but I understand why it was scaled down for the next iteration. But the real issue with the next version is the droid rack. They don't have the room to fold in in that one!
I would like to see an UCS version that would approach this set's scale again, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. And I doubt they would use the budget wisely and make it too overdesigned and too big and expensive compared to this set.

I also like the use of space here. The back holds an entire vehicle and opens on all the places you would want it to. The modularity with racks is great too.
And who can forget the 20+ battle droids? That's just perfect and perhaps even a bit beyond that. The price for this thing was high for the time, but if we're going to get a flagship set of the wave it might as well be this one!
So yeah, this set is legendary for a reason.

It surprises me they don't make sets like this more often now. Some waves consist of almost nothing but gigantic super expensive sets nowadays. That said... I would like things to actually be affordable too, so a smaller version would be nice.
Anything prequels would be nice actually!

Brickvault now has instructions for a UCS-like version, and the droid deployment mechanism is prettty epic:

;-)

Airplane jokes aside, I have this set too.
Got it a couple of years ago in as new condition with box from a colleague who wanted to get rid of most of his LEGO collection. He only wanted 45 Euro for it. And who am I to argue about a good bargain :-)

2007: the year that Lego decided it was okay to make Episode I sets even though two episodes had come out since.

Surely, you also bought him some beer?
AP: Don't call me Shirley!

@CapnRex101 said it succinctly.

This is one of those must-have sets that perfectly capture the function and attitude of the source material.

Others, Ewok Village 10236, most of the At-Ats, Death Star 10188, and most-recently Cantina 75290.

In terms of prequel vehicles, there's some nice ones. AT-TE 75019, Rep. gunship 75021 and the older turbo tank 8098.

An MTT that can only transport 6 battle droids has failed at being an MTT. It doesn’t matter how good it looks, you want to be able to transport whole legions of droids into combat.

The whole thing is made even worse by 75086, which came out a year later and had double the amount of droids despite being a smaller vehicle!

Yeah, 75086 was a nice set, and that's why its secondary price is quite high.

By in Serbia,

The GOAT! Hey, btw, @CapnRex101 – how come there isn't an MTT set tag?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I only had a couple small Star Wars sets that I loved until this: my first big Star Wars set, and one of my all time favorites. Got a lot of play out of this thing, and it definitely contributed to my love of Lego Star Wars!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

I've always wanted this, remember seeing it at TRU, but it wasn't to be.

Just last week, I finally built it! Out of parts from my own collection and 2 orders on Bricks and Pieces. Made a few modifications & improvements. So happy to finally have it :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I never realized that so many people talked on these and the piece of the day.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oooh yeah, now there's a set that's been on my 'probably eternally unattainable' wanted list for a while now xD

The classic MTT 7184 captured my attention waaaaay back before I'd even seen any of the movies or knew anything about Star Wars, just because the concept seemed cool and the shape was unusual - and because I'd never seen so many brown bricks in one place before then! - and, after having seen said movies, that appeal easily carried over into this one which only looked even more incredible.

So, yeah. Great set, great set ^^

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A great set, but lining all those battle droids up on their pallets, getting all the heads and arms folded in exactly the same way on EVERY droid, played havoc with my Lego OCD!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Slave2lego:
Torsos and heads are pretty easy because you just fold them until they hit their limit. Feet need to be pushed all the way until the toes hit the studs. Arms…are definitely a bit of work to get right, especially when you’re using both styles of BD arms. And pity the builder who doesn’t pay attention to which end of the arms are shoulders and which are hands!

Gravatar
By in United States,

With the front gate down and the droid rack in the stowed position, this set just looks like a big brown pile of turds.

75058's issues such as gaps behind the engines and droid capacity can be fixed without doing major surgery on the model. The situation is like that between 75312 and 75243. Both are good for their price points.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Loved this set, I really wish Lego would re-release this set, perhaps in a Separatist colour scheme instead. Plenty of space in this for loads of extra figures, unlike certain other models.... :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is one of my favourite sets of all time. It costed me €225,- for a MISB version, back in 2010 through BrickLink, but it was well worth it.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Even though I own this set, I'm not sure how much I actually like it.
Sure, it's BIG, but the proportions are off, and like several 2007 sets, it has curved slopes where they don't belong (on top of the cockpit in this case). The whole palette system is kinda fun, but also means there's no interior space for anything else.

One thing it was great for though, it allowed me to rearm all my older Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers with moulded blasters.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Missed out on this when it was released, so I ended up getting a used set later on for my son. He really enjoyed putting the droids in the rack and "deploying" them when the ship arrived at its destination. When 75058 was released a short time after I bought 7662, I offered to buy him the newer set, since the other set was used. He compared the two sets and turned down my offer, he preferred 7662.

Need a MTT UCS set

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I had read great things about this set for a while, so I was shocked when a guy about 30 mins away agreed to sell me one for A$80 (about US$60) just a few months ago!!!
It’s missing the Droideka and a few other parts, which I am planning to Bricklink when I find the time, but otherwise in good condition and with both instruction booklets!!
Was very happy with this find!!
I was planning to resell at a tidy profit, but if its as amazing as everyone here says, I might end up keeping it!
Is it a great build?, great features?, so many droids?, the overall look and size? - or all of these things! - that endears it to so many of you??…..
