By in United States,

It's Sunday, and this is not Clikits. We have one more chance this month, but also I guess Huwbot can give us Clikits anyday of the week with Friday's gift.

Oh, and Happy Easter everyone, enjoy some STAMPS.

I've never seen this set before. It's a very effective design.

"Released only in Continental Europe, UK and Australia."

Well, that explains it.

By in Canada,

Best part of the set is how the gantry moves on the wheels. It has a milky white TV antenna which seemed to be for anything other than space, but it’ll do.

Also, Happy Easter to all.

By in Australia,

It was 1978, and Lego Train fans were being offered better sets than in 2022. Go figure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Excellent... Train tracks that still needed to be built. None of the namby pamby one piece stuff we get now!

By in United States,

sweet little set, the 2x2x2 boxes are cool

By in New Zealand,

Güterbahnhof!!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

So was it a Güterbahnhof everywhere or were there other signs?

By in Canada,

It looks like the guy with the crane is suggesting using an illegal building method to attach it to the box. I didnt know minifigs would attempt something so wicked.

By in United States,

Oh man, that winch element brings back memories...

@gorf43: It was a different time. A wilder time.

@gorf43:
Even holding a plate like that is illegal, for a minifig. Clearly; this is a smuggling operation, and they don’t play by the rules.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Look how beautiful this toy is. Absolutely amazing, and I am not kidding.

Really? Are there different rules for plates and tiles? Because minifigs hold tiles all the time, especially as accessories in the CMF series.

By in United States,

Crude in design and color choice, but this definitely is the progenitor of 4555 the peak of the railway freight loading station. They only got worse from then on.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

City deserves a re-release of this harbour theme

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not only is it a train set, but it has two sets of tracks?! I wish we could get stuff like this nowadays.

@SinKiller_Nick:
There are, because tiles are a tiny bit thinner than plates, and have a groove on the bottom edge. Both of those mean a minifig hand can grip a tile by the edge without being stressed. It may not seem like it should make much of a difference, but put a tile in a minifig’s hand and just look at where it contacts the “palm”. Note that both edges of the groove touch, meaning that a squared corner would push the hand out that much farther.

Minifigures and Blue era trains. This happened only in 1978 with 4 sets 164, 165, 166 and 167 ... another 2 years and the Grey era showed up.

You're lucky... it was nearly, 'hoity toity, namby pamby, arty farty, wishy washy, fannying about, one piece stuff' :-)

" @sjr60: Train tracks that still needed to be built. None of the namby pamby one piece stuff we get now!"
The blue track kept falling apart, the grey track took time to fit together & take apart, the 'one piece stuff' is great.

4015 makes lego repeat offenders

Wow!

Great fact. Never noticed that before.
And it’s 4 ancillary sets, no actual Blue era trains or train sets ever came with minifigs in them!

This set is beautiful. Simple, but beautiful.

That one is different, like yesterday's RSotD. If you place a stud between studs they're at least not pushing against each other, like the 'lights' on the Police cars from yesterday.
The slightly thicker plate is probably still a problem though. In today's set offsetting the studs is not practical.

By in Netherlands,

I really wanted this set (among others of course). It looked like so much fun, so much playability, it really triggered my storytelling imagination

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I have this! Or well, my dad had this and I rebuilt it when I was just a little boy and it's been with me since. It's not in the best shape nor fully complete (though I think the only thing missing is some stickers and two of the white doors) but man this is such a fun set. We also had (and I also still have) a ton of the blue and gray tracks plus 2 trains that still function beautifully. Oh, the magnificent screeky noise when it goes around.. and around.. and around.. I should get onto building a new layout when I get some free time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

There's something I think we're all missing. There's a perfectly legal way he could hook the box to the crane: Just attach attach it to the anti-studs. They're both 2x2, after all. Sure,box will hang at an angle, but no parts get stressed that way.

Careful, or you’ll have him shouting at you to get off his lawn…

@watcher21:
Is that a day-freighter? I don’t see how there would be room for them to sleep, unless they hang a sleeping bag from the crane.

@Binnekamp:
While going off-grid does allow the studs to nest between each other, I believe they still intersect enough to prevent the plate from fully seating, by about the thickness of a sheet of paper. It’s still much more stable than going on-grid, but there’s still the issue of additional thickness. I would expect making this attachment, even for a little while, would leave dents in the pinched plate. For that matter, I wouldn’t be surprised to see tiny dents if a tile is left pinched for any degree of time. Not all legal connections are damage-free. Even attaching a 1x1 square plate to a stud for a fraction of a second is enough to leave four dents right where the stud first contacts the plate.

By in United States,

One of the sets on my list to bricklink, already have the cargo containers with stickers, just need the rest and some of the parts.. Neat set at the beginning of the age of mini-figures and trains for LEGO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Technically, the connection between the box and the crane isn't quite made in the box art. The blue-hatted guy is about to come over and yell at his colleague for contemplating such a thing.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Nothing fancy, yet so good. Like some others already asked: Why doesn't Lego make anything like this anymore?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Love it!
Wonder why it's only one out of "4 Trains sets produced that year"? The were more back then. It's the year I got my first Lego train with Sinterklaas. Still remember that moment.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Wrecknbuild:
It wasn’t uncommon for sets back then to remain available for a few years. If you know the first one you got, have you looked up when it was released?
