This is 100% the perfect reason for still being awake at 2 am.
This is why I have insomnia. I was waiting for this.
Thanks huwbot. Thanks.

Scala parties so hard. They absolutely demolished that pool.

That Scorpion is still on a bad trip. Doesn't know what's going on with all these crazy colors all around him.

And is anyone else seeing the cosmic dolphin? I think we've slipped into another dimension...

By in United States,

I haven't seen that cosmic dolphin before, now I need it in my life

By in United States,

This needs a SpongeBob minifig in there somewhere.

I like how the baby and the woman are having the exact same thought (hallucination) at the same time. Must be a very intelligent baby and a woman under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs.

By in United States,

I don’t even recognize this as LEGO. Can’t understand why this product was photographed with unused parts still on a sprue!

By in United States,

This is basically me with my home improvement projects. I'll just dream that it will someday be done, but I'll be sitting in that pile of stuff for years.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is basically what my living room looked like after Christmas morning.

By in United States,

intresting parts pack.

I sense the Jaws theme since Friends are eligible next week to be RSOTD. Consider this your last warning.

yep everything is going to change when the friends attack brickset just like clikts, scala, and beliville did.

By in Australia,

I WANT THAT COSMIC DOLPHIN MORE THAN I'VE WANTED ANYTHING.

Edit -- for the record, there are five Bricklink sellers who have the cosmic dolphin for sale. Most are in 'used' condition, but one's new, and has an asking price of $150 Australian (which seems to be about a hundred Euros).

You'd think that would put me off, but I'm still pretty tempted.

I’m looking for My Dad here. That creep must be lurking around somewhere near the pool.

Conversation in Lego art department in 1998;
Do we need to build this set for the box art?
Nope.

@Mr__Thrawn:
It’s clearly the scorpion hallucinating about the two humans hallucinating. Scorpion obviously licked that dolphin and is high as a satellite now.

The dolphin is the space baby from 2001

By in Canada,

Of all the parts in this set, the one I like the most is the double cassette deck 1x4 brick — you know, so you can record your dreams on tape, then make a second copy of it in real time.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Based on these comments, I wonder if the six Cosmic Dolphins listed as sold in the last 6 months on Bricklink actually sold within the last 2 hours...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This box art is like seeing the latest X Wing set. But its just a pile of bricks with Luke and R2 minifigs sitting in the middle, thought bubbles bubbling up to a tiny picture of the finished X Wing. I dont get it.

By in United States,

Ok, but why did they include a scorpion?

It was the late 90s, and scorpions were quite new. So Lego tended to put them everywhere.

Simple: scorpions are cool.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Another set with propper pictures of set online yet you use confusing image from the instructions.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

"Flashy" isn't quite the correct term...but I guess "Smurf Blinding" wouldn't look good on the box.:)

Definitely not xD
I always wanted that damned thing since I spotted it in the catalogues, but still couldn't get one^^
Prices on these have been astronomical since at least summer 2020 (yes I got bored). However that dolphin was also part of an alarm clock set in 2001 which was slightly less obscure (and also slightly cheaper) than this set.

By in Russian Federation,

I love how Scala presents its sets, like it's the next day after the atom bombing.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Ok, now I really need at least one Scala set for my collection. No LEGO collection without one feels complete or dedicated enough. Will look flashy next to a Technic set - maybe I'll let one doll lounge on the hood of 42111 ...

It’s been 5 hours since your post and there are STILL five for sale on BL…
…go on, you know you want one!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Glad to see people here on Brickset finally give Scala some appreciation... I've been pointing out for years how this line was filled with so many unique cool parts such as the "Cosmic Dolphin" but nobody took that into account until now, lol.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Interesting, a swimming pool post-hurricane scene! I didn't expect that from you, Lego!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

"That's the last time I buy a swimming pool from Ikea!"

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looking at the state of it I’d say it’s less flashy pool and more flash flood…

Gravatar
By in United States,

Scala.. the picture says it all. Kaleidoscopic chaos in ABS.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Looking at that picture for hours now and still discovering untold stories in there. What a gem.

Well, aren't undiscovered stories the thing LEGO is supposed to be about? In that regard, Scala succeeded =)

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Is it really called a Cosmic Dolphin? Or was it made up here and now?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

That's one expensive dolphin nowadays.

Wait, what? “Eligible”? Can sets only become RSotD when they’re ten years old or something?

No warning necessary, BTW. Friends has been a real shot in the arm for LEGO that’s opened it up to more people and produced some wonderful sets.

By in United States,

@NotProfessorWhymzi:
They’re whalers, not dolphin-hunters.

@TeriXeri:
Considering it contains an entire universe within itself, it’s actually a quite reasonable price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Dolphin, at least on Bricklink, in trans light blue is listed as "Dolphin with Abnormal Connection". I'd say it has an abnormal connection with this set.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I have this set, and it was one of those I played with all day long. Love the dolphin, the pool and all the colours :)

Not entirely sure on this, but maybe because older sets will generate more discussion?

I think the actual reason The Scorpion is there is because the Scala pool has been rocked by a Hurricane. It's getting inspiration for a song title from the wreckage. However, The Scorpion's "Rock you like a Scala Hurricane" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue... might need a bit of tweaking before that one gets released to the public.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the imagery of a lady and her infant having a picnic in a pile of colorful trash.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can it actually be filled with water?

I was actually thinking the same thing, yet decided not to mention it for fear of people not knowing about The Scorpions.

By in United States,

Thomas is wondering why we can't have nice things. Mommy is too caught up in her fantasy world to see the reality of her ruined life around her. The dolphin is hoping to escape this hoarding nightmare and become a collector's item on Bricklink. The scorpion is just here to kill somebody.

Ah, Scala. It never disappoints.
