Another one of the greats. Been awhile since a proper droid battle pack, essentially well, this one. It's the only one to be made that's actual common droids, so it was great for army building. Even with just two, you could easily dwarf the Clone forces from just typical sets which fits with the lore of the Separatists focusing on numbers and battle of attrition rather than quality soldiers. You also got two real vehicles from the movies, which is pretty sweet, too.

The nice thing about battle droids is that since they're custom molds and not prints they're way cheaper to produce than Minifigs, and they can put a ton of 'em in sets for army building! Of course the highlight of this is 7662 , but I feel like a similar case not a lot of people talk about is 8894 which came with all 12 of that year's main characters for just 80 bucks. That's right baby, I brought it back to BIONICLE! You can't escape!

Back on topic, remember that metallic blue they used for the first few Super Battle Droids? Y'all ever think we'll get that figure and/or color in production again? Probably not but would be nice!

Without that transparent piece on the box art, it's impossible to tell how that 1x3 plate at the droid's feet on the flying vehicle is attached! Really confused me at first!

A legendary set! I think its pretty safe to say that Lego couldnt go wrong with releasing something similar today. But we all know they wont... Maybe Im the only one with an unusually strong liking for battle droids.

What do you think the larger vehicle is inspired by? I had always assumed it was a heavily adapted version of the standard Droid Carrier, with some design influence from the Trade Federation Patrol Boat: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Trade_Federation_Patrol_Boat

However, it sounds like you might have something more specific in mind.

When was the last time we had so many Super Battle Droids? Or any Super Battle Droids... period?

By in United States,

As far as Star Wars sets that need to be remade go, this one's near the top of my wishlist.

By in United States,

Lore on this set is that these guys were all just made the week before this scene takes place...and they all died a few minutes later.

Alright, you got me, I made an assumption with how briefly we see it on screen. I'm thinking of this: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Platoon_Attack_Craft which based off what we can see in the set, is woefully inaccurate to the source, but I believe that the intent of what's in the set is meant to be the Platoon Attack Craft. The same basic shape is followed more than most of the many made up vehicles that Battle Packs are known for.

Fair enough. I was just checking that I had not missed some direct inspiration from any art books, comics, or similar!

This and the clone battle pack released in the same wave are the OG. Coolest idea Lego had in a while.

The leg clip breaks in the metallic blue droids if you look at it sideways. The bodies and arms seem fine, though. That clip may be why the colour was discontinued.

As for this battle pak, I got several copies from a teenager who outgrew LEGO at the time and sold off his whole SW collection in a box. I think there were 5 in there as well as a troop carrier, the Battle of Naboo and an MTT; his explanation was “I like[d] droids.” I think the only non-droid set in the box was Jabba’s Sail Barge which was fine with me!

By in Singapore,

The Super Battle Droids bodies are incredibly fragile, almost all of mine have broken clips.

By in United States,

This is one of those sets that I never had but always wanted, and is from that era (late 2000s to early 2010s) where everything was simpler but somehow still looked cooler than anything I build today. Hits this nice balance of starting to have more nice detail pieces, but it still looks very Lego.

Ha! Only one of two battle packs I own. Lol. This one was a b-day gift from my mother. (Somehow, I think it's funny that it's a battle back of battle droids.)

No lore is safe from the piercing eye of CapnRex!

What a blast from the past. The droid carriers were so simple yet so versatile for play. You could put literally anybody on there and float them around. Such a classic. Rose tinted glasses or not. I remember getting multiple, and combining them into extra-long carriers.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just a fun set all round. Can’t go wrong with a fairly well proportioned STAP like that and you can imagine a squad of those troop carriers turning up and rapidly deploying a small army of droids

Gravatar
By in Australia,

One of my all-time favourite BPs. I do wish for a remake of this in the future.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Another set I regret not picking up. Especially since I'd like to have more super battle droids.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It's interesting that despite the switch to the new modern blaster mould that happened in 2007, this set still has the classic megaphone blaster for the droids. It looks strange because the opposing 2007 Clone Battle Pack does have the new blasters.

Perhaps the new arm mould which holds the blaster in an upright position was only ready for the summer wave's MTT? Otherwise they could've included two B1 droids with the old arms and two with one of the new arms each, like they did with many sets in the future when a droid had to fit on a STAP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The only real battle droid battle pack we ever got, it's been far too long.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had this one.

By in United States,

The Battle Packs are some of the best LEGO sets ever. You get a good number of figs, plus some parts that are loosely assembled into a vehicle.

And they’re more available. I would’ve loved to have purchased some of the Space Minifigure packs when I was a kid, but I never saw them in stores!

By in United States,

@bionicle212:
I always considered 7126 to be a battle pack, but it’s not tagged as such here for some reason. Both sets cost $10 USD, so it’s at the correct price point to be one, and certainly looks like what you’d expect. I did spot something that resembles the vehicle driving down a street during an aerial shot of the invasion of Theed, but I have no idea what the official name would be.

But after that, yeah, the closest they’ve come is 75086, which cost $40, putting it more in the same territory as 75280. What would have been cool is a 4-pack of STAPs. Given how cheaply they can produce standard battle droids vs minifigs, and the piece count for 30004 (which even has a few extra parts compared to this version) vs some actual battle packs, maybe with the economy of scale factored in they could have bumped it to a 5-pack.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Heh, I'd almost forgotten how the battle droid used to hold their blasters gangsta-style!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

GOAT battlepack (only a little biased :p)

My first Lego Star Wars set, I remember saving up for it and finally getting it. To this day I still consider it one of my favorite SW sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just got this set 2 weeks ago sealed and I love that super battle droid on the front of the packaging saying “build your army!” One of my favorite non clone battle packs!!
