By in United Kingdom,

Not sure why it didn't post at 2am, but definitely better late than never for this set!

By in Netherlands,

Waking up late to be greeted by one of the most iconic classic sets, without even any comments posted yet (I'll ignore Huw's ;) )! Today is gonna be a good day, I can feel it.

By in Belgium,

Absolutely gorgeous set in the dark Blacktron I series! Love the place to store the tools :-)

By in Belgium,

Finally! Recently acquired this set (and other Blacktron sets), it’s quite fun! Just its size is a bit large when compared to spaceships of the same theme :)

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

What kind of Batman vehicle is this? I never saw it in any of the comics nor movies.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This would be a cool set to build an updated version of. Either give it steering or make it articulated in the center!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Finally a Blacktron set for that fellow who always harps on about Blacktron, but it happens on the one day he's already gone to bed.

O, cruel Fate!

By in Italy,

One of my childhood favorites, together with 6894 it was a lot of fun! I basically destroyed it playing: its "special" parts were quite weak. Thus, it was one of the first sets I rebuilt when I discovered Bricklink, a looooong time ago...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looking at all those exhausts and rockets at the back I assume this thing has some serious horsepower. It’s basically a Blacktron dragster isn’t it?

Gravatar
By in Jersey,

Wow those 2x1 bricks with yellow grille are expensive! Along with that 4x4 trans yellow canopy extender.

Fantastic set though. Never knew it was released in North America so much sooner than in the United Kingdom.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Six hours late, but if someone is late rolling up in something like that, you don't question anything for your own safety.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Half ATV, half racing car, all Blacktron!
Prices for used examples on German ebay are ridiculously high; they rarely start below 40€. It took me about 2 years to even get one under 55; usually being overbid.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It was always fun to mix and match the different Blacktron modular components from this set and the others released. Putting the back, detachable flyer with others was always fun, though it tended to make odd looking vehicles. But those wings are hinged and fold back to make things a bit more sleek.

By in United States,

Something about the parts in this set--not just what IS there, like those wheels, but what isn't there--screams late 1980s to me in a wonderful way.

On the subject of naming, I also love the word "Battrax." Needing a name to distinguish Blacktron 1 (just called Blacktron--or the Blacktron Special Forces) in my LEGOverse from Blacktron 2, I have the B2s placed into a separate part of Known Space: the Battrax Sector, for which reason they have a giant B. Any Blacktron Special Forces posted to their sector wear regular black Blacktron uniforms but with the Battrax-B superimposed (i.e. the Wrench fig from SPiii and various collectible minifigs).

In other words, despite not owning this set, it has left a decent mark on my lore. It might also be one of the most swooshable-looking wheeled vehicles out there.

Solid A grade. Get one into my collection and it might even make A+.

By in United Kingdom,

So how did the Blacktrons steal this design from Batman and get away with it? :P

I guess they must have intercepted a message from Lucius to Batman somehow..."

Well, they have built 6987 exactly for that task

By in United Kingdom,

My first and ironically my ONLY of the original Blacktron sets that I got back in the day (I bought a LOT of Blacktron II sets though). I can still remember building it, and finding it strange that a space set had repurposed window frames and shutters. Interestingly, though I prefer Blacktron II colour scheme and sets, I much preferred the original Space Police (I don't like yellow with black or green with red).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One of the coolest mini figures ever!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I asked for the Renegade for Christmas, and I got this instead. It was cool...but even today there’s just a hint of lingering disappointment.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the look of the little ship that can be made by attaching the cockpit module with the rear "spoiler" module. The cockpit module does have much empty unused space in front of the driver (that can be modded to hold another Blacktron fig) and the open bottom always did bother me (easily fixed by adding some inverted slopes). Despite Blacktron I's much vaunted interchangeable modules, I don't really think the modules look very good when swapped among the different sets (strangely, 6876 and 6954 work the best) for various reasons (differing heights of pin attachment points, width restrictions, the reversed pin system on 6894, etc.).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I always wanted more Blacktron sets as a kid. The idea of combining chunks of different sets into bigger space vehicles was so intriguing!

Unfortunately my Invader and Alienator weren’t the best at showcasing that idea.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

It's sad that there were only a handful of Blacktron sets (Not counting the BT2). So much potential, so very lost.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is my oldest set that I still have not sorted out with my other pieces. Always been a favorite!

That is indeed strange, because it is pretty obvious that 6876 was not desinged with Blacktron in mind. You can clearly see that the 3 1987 designs were ment to form a cohesive group and that both 1988 sets were trown in later as a continuation of the theme, but were not specifically designed to fit it.

By in Netherlands,

Like all Blacktron 1 outings, this is an incredible set. Built it more times than I can remember when I was a kid. I loved the storage space behind the black shuttered window pieces, and the detachable drone. I also vividly remember the yellow and black tubes coming loose pretty much every time you steered the vehicle, which led to much dismay back in the day but somehow adds to the charm in retrospect…

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I so miss those small shutters. I believe one of the reasons sets were so neat beck then it is because they had much better pieces than today which allowed for very compact designs. Those shutters are an example - the doors lay flat on the model - the new shutters protrude quite a bit out. There was also those 1x2 plate with 2 or 3 claws that meshed together (hinged)(can be used for stud reversal) that design was very compact versus the clip that we have to use now.

Never had any blacktron but 6954 was definitely my favourite of the lot. To me this was the beginning of my first dark age.

Although there is no steering the vehicle is articulated at the center. Seems to be the only set with part number 2337 Windscreen 4 x 4 x 2 Canopy Extender in Trans-Yellow, although available in 7 different sets in other colours.
The alternative builds at https://www.backoftheboxbuilds.com/set-6941/ are a dragster and spaceship with very long legs, plus whatever you can think of, not bad for 284 pieces.

By in United States,

I love it when one of my favs makes it to RSOTD.

Got the Battrax and the Invader as Christmas presents a year apart. My Battrax went head-to-head with my SP Spy-Trak and lost every time - like I said when 6895 came around on RSOTD, I favored the good guys.

Never rebuilt the Spy-Trak, but I do have SPI and M:Tron-flavored Battrax sitting on my shelves. (I have pics at Rebrickable, but I honestly don't know if it's apropros to post links like that here.)

Each color of the canopy extender came in just one set- and I have all eight!

By in United States,

I picked up this set as I was about to go into my first Dark Age. I don't recall the circumstances, but I know I bought it myself and did so in secret as I was a bit embarrassed that my parents would find out that I was buying Lego at age 14. Given that I was 14 and didn't have a driver's license, I must have rode my bike to the mall...so either Zayre or Bradlees. I've still got the box (and the set) in the basement, so I should go look for a price sticker.

...but I LOVE this set! Blacktron 1 is still super cool looking. It was great how the back wings and the front cockpit could separate and combine to form a flying spaceship. I wish I got more of those sets, but a 14 year-old had limited funds.

By in United States,

That'll do, Huwbot. That'll do.

Big BT1 fan here, too! Those black visors were the coolest thing ever. Such a great theme, good choice Huwbot!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This looks absolutely fantastic

With a tear in my eye….

To make the effect even more ominous, turn the heads around so when you lift the visor, there's no face underneath. *Shudder*

By in France,

Dream of my youth ^^. At this time we just had the little Alienator 6876. I rebuilt it from Bricklink 10 years ago, and it worth it. I love it !

And the Blacktron color scheme is so cool, without risk of parts turning yellow ^^.

By in Canada,

Three months ago I did a YouTube video sorting out a bulk bin, and this set was among 19 sets I discovered in there! It ended up being 71% complete when compared to the Bricklink inventory. There are only what, 6 Blacktron sets, and various bulk bins have provided me with 3 of them so far. I count myself as blessed.

(Search up “19 classical LEGO sets” on YouTube if interested, but I didn’t want to post a link directly in case that is a faux pas).

Dang, Hilda spares no expense for Lorule's military.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

These comments are a delight to read. Unnecessary to say, that I do own the set...

Gravatar
By in United States,

You'd think that the Blacktron guy would've shown up by now

Gravatar
By in United States,

That is misleading photography. It has been edited to make the minifigure look much smaller compared to the vehicle than it actually is!

@bananaworld
@david_m77
Not too much of a loss for ElephantKnight - he prefers Blacktron II anyway. It may seem that the majority of Blacktron fans prefer the 80s version, but there is plenty of love for Blacktron II as well. Blacktron I sets and mocs seem to prioritize function, with lots of greebling and asymmetry, while Blacktron II sets and mocs prioritize form, sleekness and symmetry.

@jkb
European classic sets seem to be much more reasonably priced than in America, especially on Bricklink too. In the US the cheapest Battrax lot on EBay right now starts at $65!

@560heliport
I wish Lego made a modern canopy system like that. All of the 4-wide canopies are the same thickness as panels: 2337, 2507, 2620, 4674. So they were used for excellent SNOT in sets like the original AT-ST. While there isn't any modern system as subtle as the old hinges, there could be a new extender piece made that could interface with the likes of 92579 and 27165. They both seem to have a similar profile at the back.

"It’s got 1,000,000 horsepower! And goes 20 miles an hour!"

Talk about fuel inefficiency. It must have been one of the rejected Batmobile designs. Most Batmobiles do have rocket engines, and go a lot faster than that.

@sir_vasco
I thought that was a joke at first, but there actually is an opposite version of Hyrule called Lorule and "Hilda" is the Bizzaro version of Princess Zelda.

By in United States,

Well, here we go again, late Random Set of the Day again. Not waiting for it this time, see you all in 6 hours I guess.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Ahhh..... a perfect set. I guess if it included a scum police to run over, it may be better.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

But I must add, a Blacktron 2 version would look wicked!

This is up much later than normal. Huwbot must have somehow known I was getting to Brickset late.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yay, the Blacktron set gets an extension, so it’s not Random Set of the Next Eighteen Hours! Also, someone give @Huwbot a thump upside his processor, would ya?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Somewhere upon a hill, Link looks on...confused...:)

What are the odd that BT, and the Zelda series would wind up with symbols so similar...

Also, I was 'out' of Lego by the time of BT...don't really hate though:)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Again? Huwbot must be really enjoying the Olympics.

Gravatar
By in United States,

You gotta be kidding me. Again?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

BLACKTRON FOREVER!

I swear I had nothing to do with this.......

Gravatar
By in United States,

Take it off any sweet jumps?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Guys, I don't think Huwbot is feeling well.
