Ahh the simple days when there wasn't a virtual encyclopedia of Lego parts to choose from and you could still make things as impressive looking as this.

The City Farm subtheme is smaller than I remembered. I wonder how it dod for lego, simce it feels lile something AFOL diorama builders would want more of, but I also wouldn't be surprised if kids found it boring.

By in Australia,

Oh, I loved this one when it came out. The entire agricultural sub-theme was gorgeous.

By in United States,

^^Which may also explain we haven't had a theme for it since then.

I also feel we are also in the middle of needing a construction, cargo, harbor, and in 2022 or so, a hospital theme.

This set and the farm theme in general is one of my favorites from this era of the City series. I just started back into LEGO around this time and these early sets were awesome. The farm theme in particular, since it was a theme not really visited by LEGO since the introduction of a few scant sets in the late 1980's (Derby Trotter, Stable, etc.). So it was nice to see something different. This particular set is a quick and simple build, so much so that after several tries one really does not need the instructions (what I consider to be the most important part of the best sets). It has been now almost ten years since the introduction of the farm theme. High time in my humble opinion to bring out some new sets. The Harvester Transport for 2019 is a great start.

@Wavelength I would wager it was not that popular. I obtained the entire theme at TRU for 50% off in 2010. The farm set was cool, and I loved the variety of animals.

This doesn't feel like it came out ten years ago. I do remember everyone going crazy over the farm sub-theme. And yet, it quietly disappeared and hasn't had a resurgence to date. I feel like having a farm in a "City" theme is a bit of an oxymoron, but in the world of imagination, I guess anything is possible. I, however, never went for any of the farm sets aside from a smaller tractor polybag that came as a gift with purchase in the summer of 2010.

I don't remember this set. In fact, don't recall the farm sub-theme. I love the set and it has great parts.

I wouldn’t mind a return of this sub theme, having missed it. I feel a sudden lack of a farm in my city. Hmm... how to fix that by tomorrow so I don’t go crazy...

2020 - a return to Farm? I can dream...

By in New Zealand,

Hey Lego, How about a farm theme?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

They should give Farm the Jungle/Arctic treatment and offer a different animal or two in each set. Even cooler if cows and goats were ‘cheap’. Animals got my curiosity. If I wanted a tractor then I would go with Mining or Construction. Putting cattle in with Train is smart though.

The farm theme was (and is!) delightful, and in LEGO City Undercover it inspired one of my favorite video game abilities of any game ever... pulling a chicken out from your hat and using it as a hang-glider!

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

@Balthazar Brannigan yeah, that is an awesome ability! I think it should 100% be in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga!)

By in United Kingdom,

has that shovel he's holding been cut? it looks shorter than that piece normally is. or is it just the angle its being held at?

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

^ Pretty sure it's the angle. You can just barely make out the embossed part number and copyright at the end.

This set is kinda the forerunner to 60181 Forest Tractor. Update the wheels, smoke nozzle and lights, add a grill and it wouldn't be that out of place in today's themes.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Confirmed. This is a Tractor.

By in Sweden,

Sadly missed out on the farm theme due to financial difficulties at the time. In the last years I've bought some minecraft sets to get my farm fix (using some cows and pigs I had from older sets), but a city subtheme would be awesome.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ah... the subtheme that gave us pigs and cows!
Superb.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hey, it's a random set that I own that's NOT Star Wars!

Can't remember how or why I ever got it though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m pretty sure the chicken as a hang glider bit is a Legend of Zelda reference...which makes sense when we consider the game was originally a Nintendo exclusive.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

The sets that came from this subtheme are so good.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Nice and clean, just the way I like it!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

we have hada a pretty decent harvester transporter this year and the amazing forest tractor last year - the more vehicles from the farm / logger theme, the merrier

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This theme was during one of my dark ages so passed me by but I really like the look of it. There is a lot of farm stuff in Duplo and Mia in Friends is a farm gal. I would definitely enjoy another farm range.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This sub theme is one of the ones i remember from when i first got into lego, it, as well as agents, the old Coast guard, and power miners have a lot of nostalgia for me.

This random set answered a question I've had for quite a while. I've been playing LEGO Tower and wondered if the tractor that occasional rolls across my screen is a set or something the developers created. Turns out it is this set - I should've known the game developers couldn't have created such a nice looking model!

I've got this one, though it's in pieces. I bought this set at Toys R' Us when I was visiting a city that had one (for me, nearest TRU was two hours away). I quickly modified it to better represent the John Deere 5400 we had. I added a loader (which meant having to remove the side-mount air cleaner), and changed the cab to a canopy. Also worked on the 3-Point hitch so it would take more stuff than just the multipurpose carrier. Tried to build a pallet/bale fork for the loader, but could never do anything decent.

My one complaint about this set is the gaps between the wheels and interior of the cab caused by the rear fenders.

By in Canada,

I'm not sure it's necessarily boring I just don't think most people have any connection to farming.

I certainly do and would love to see a farming theme.

So sounds like many of these marvelous sets didn't sell well and were sold at steep discount... to then later be resold for at least 3x their original retail value on aftermarket. Makes sense. Where was I in 2009-2010? Oh yeah, trying to snag each SW retail set produced - before it became like 100+/year and financially impossible. Now my food supply starved city has deep regrets. Oh LEGO, bring back the farm theme, especially the animals!!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I've always loved this set! Too bad I let him get away!
I should have bought more than one !!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's a nice tractor. Kinda sad I was apparently unaware of it when it was released.

Gravatar
By in United States,

"Hey kids, how would you like to go buy a nice new LEGO model of AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT?"

Gravatar
By in Canada,

As a person who grew up in a farming community, and who has farmers in the family, I can say this would have been of great interest. Perhaps the larger populations in the cities might not have embraced it as much (hard to say), but I would love to see Farm return.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I had a whole LEGO distribution carton of these for a future project. They were going to tow parade floats with each set of collectible minifigs on the float. Sold them off recently instead as too many collectible sets out now.

Gravatar
By in Venezuela,

Just one man and his tractor... oh yeah...

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is a good little set. I picked up a few of the Farm sets that year, including the one with the silo. I wish the barn had been more substantial, though.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Not sure why but I really liked this little set and the few other farm sets they brought out, when I came out of the dark age which was in 2012, these had already been discontinued but I've been lucky in my travels to find them and purchase. So was very happy to add to my collection. Hong Kong and Singapore used to be great for finding all these old sets but their supply has pretty much been depleted, unfortunately.
