Review: 60202 People Pack - Outdoor Adventures

60202 People Pack - Outdoor Adventures is the third in a series of CITY minifigure-based sets which have been released since 2016. These are consistently marvellous and I have been looking forward to this example in particular as it comes with several interesting new pieces.
The most notable such element is probably the impressive bald eagle, although there are numerous brand new minifigure components and printed pieces to be discovered too. I am therefore very confident that this set will match the exceptionally high standard of its predecessors, perhaps even surpassing them!
Minifigures
This set contains fourteen minifigures and a baby, almost all of whom include new elements. The first wears a medium blue shirt which is decorated with a lovely tropical sunset on both sides and can only be found in two other sets. The double-sided head, on the other hand, is brand new and features two different smiling expressions as well as a moustache.
The female minifigure wears a new pink blouse which could prove versatile while her dark tan trousers are shared with characters from the Forest Police and Mining subthemes. I like the pockets printed on the front of her legs and the head looks great too, with a cheerful expression on one side and closed eyes on the other. This figure carries a bottle of water while her male companion has a mobile phone and a selfie stick.
A female photographer is also included. Her double-sided head is decorated with a smile and a winking expression, the latter of which is intended for use with her camera accessory. The torso is new too and this minifigure wears a reddish brown satchel that was originally created ten years ago for the Indiana Jones theme.
The third female minifigure does not feature any new components but still looks great in my opinion, sporting a bright light blue hooded jumper with a blue shirt underneath as well as corresponding blue trousers and a pair of lavender sunglasses. A printed 1x2 tile, representing a mobile phone, completes the figure.
New hair pieces are often designed for licensed themes but the style worn by this female minifigure is only available in CITY and Creator Expert sets at the moment. I like this unique light bluish grey variant and the bright pink puffer jacket looks fantastic too, featuring some metallic silver fasteners and a white shirt underneath. The head is also new and includes two different smiling expressions along with some wrinkles and sunglasses.
The male minifigure includes a new head as well, featuring some facial hair and two different smiling expressions. His dark tan vest jacket was introduced in 60182 Pickup & Caravan and both sides are covered with pockets so this seems perfect for traveling through the forest where one might need to carry lots of accessories.
Impressive though this minifigure is, its accessory is even more interesting. The man wears a dark tan baby carrier around his neck which is made from a rubbery material and includes some great moulded detail. There is no stud for attaching the baby, who wears an exclusive spring yellowish green bodysuit, but friction between the two pieces alone is more than sufficient.
While some of these minifigures are visiting the forest for relaxation, others have come in search of an adventure. The hiker, shown on the left in the image below, wears a green jacket over a dark blue shirt with a wolf emblem on the front. This design is shared with the Hockey Player from the fourth series of Collectable Minifigures so shows the hiker's love for that ice hockey team! I always enjoy the sense of continuity provided by details like this one.
The hiker also includes a new head but the climber makes use of an existing element, sporting a pair of orange-tinted glasses and a white helmet. His vest is new though and includes some realistic branding while the legs, which were created for the Jungle subtheme last year, are decorated with a couple of straps. The climber does not have any accessories but the hiker carries a pair of lime green trekking poles to assist in crossing rough terrain.
LEGO fans have often expressed disappointment at the design of the modern life jacket component so it is wonderful to see an updated element here. This orange piece represents a vast improvement over its simpler predecessors, including superior moulded detail and fitting between a minifigure's head and torso very neatly.
The younger rafter wears a grey hooded jacket beneath his life jacket while the older character features a new dark red torso which looks superb from the front and back. His bearded head is a new design too and both minifigures wear a medium azure helmet which are only otherwise available in a couple of the new Arctic sets. They are equipped with two paddles which make good use of the blade piece released in 2017.
I was impressed by the new motocross helmet when it was introduced at the beginning of this year so am glad to see it again here, worn by a mountain biker on this occasion. The large white goggles look superb, presenting an attractive contrast with the dark blue helmet while also matching the torso. The 'SPORT' branding here corresponds with that on the climber's vest and I like its red, white and black colour scheme very much.
Removing the helmet reveals some mud on one side of the cyclist's face while the other is decorated with a determined expression. Naturally, this minifigure is focused entirely upon riding her lime green mountain bike, shown towards the end of the review, so does not come with any other accessories.
Three children complete the minifigure selection. The first of these wears a tan shirt with a dark green collar so strongly resembles a scout. He includes a new head with an excited expression and a reddish brown backpack, obscuring further printed detail on the back of his torso. It would have been brilliant to see the large backpack introduced with the Hiker from Series 16 of the Collectable Minifigures here, although this older piece works equally well.
The two girls both include freckled faces and short legs. I like the pink and white striped shirt worn by the minifigure on the left of the image below while that on the right includes a new purple jacket with dark pink and teal bands across the front and back. The elasticated hem is particularly detailed and looks lovely but this design feels more appropriate for a winter environment than a summer one in my view.
Triple-moulded short legs were originally created for The Simpsons theme but look equally impressive here, depicting separate shorts and shoes. The girl wearing a pink shirt also features a rare hair piece as this element has only appeared in medium nougat once before, on Margaret Hamilton from 21312 Women of NASA. The girls come with another bottle of water and a pair of light bluish grey binoculars.
The Completed Model
This set is focused upon the minifigures, as one would anticipate, but the accompanying models must not be overlooked. These include a lamp and a small camping stove which each stand on a green 2x2 jumper plate. The stove rests on a blue gas canister and a new fried egg is included, represented by a printed 1x1 round tile rather than the 2x2 tile found in 70920 Egghead Mech Food Fight.
A wooden signpost is also included, identifying this area as Mount Clutchmore and pointing in the direction of LEGO CITY. I love the roughly-hewn structure of the sign and was pleasantly surprised to discover that these reddish brown 1x4 tiles are printed rather than using stickers. In fact, this set does not feature any stickers at all.
LEGO has produced several different tents over the last two decades, beginning with a traditional ridge design in 5978 Sphinx Secret Surprise. However, 41339 Mia's Camper Van introduced a more modern tent template which also appears here, albeit with a different colour scheme and larger window panels on this occasion. I like the combination of red, dark red and dark blue as well as the white netting on each side of the structure.
The flexible plastic template is designed with creases above the flaps at either end, allowing you to open them without fear of damaging the material. Two beds are found inside along with a narrow floor area in the centre and the beds are long enough for a minifigure to lie down in each of them, as demonstrated below.
The standard LEGO bicycle has been in use since 1985 but would be poorly suited to off-road cycling. A brand new mountain bike frame has therefore been designed and it looks fantastic, featuring angled handlebars, tyres with a deep tread and room to seat a minifigure. The lime green colour scheme is very striking and there are connection points beside the pedals so you can customise the bike with additional assemblies.
A small ramp is included for the mountain biker to cycle over, consisting of a reddish brown 2x4 tile laid against a log. This is a simple structure but I think it looks fairly realistic, due in part to the use of a printed 2x2 round tile with some exposed wood graining which was introduced last year. The green 1x2 rocker bearing is also very rare, having appeared in just three other sets, while the corresponding reddish brown 2x2 hinge plate is only available in five sets.
The yellow dinghy has not been updated since 1997 but continues to look superb. The stud at the front is useful for adding lights or other accessories and the hand grips on either side are ideal for carrying the boat to the water's edge. There is just enough space for three minifigures to sit inside, although the raft looks a little more realistic with two in my opinion. As usual, the boat consists of a single component so can float.
Naturally, this set also includes a rock face for the climber. Four light bluish grey hand grips are situated across one side of the structure and these are very useful for posing the minifigure as though he is climbing. I like the mixture of different grey shades and the differing slopes look pretty good, although far more advanced building techniques have been used in other sets. Nevertheless, I think a basic structure is adequate in this instance.
I absolutely love LEGO animals so have been looking forward to the brand new bald eagle very much indeed. It does not disappoint, including exceptional moulded detail as well as some nice printing. The primary feathers at the tips of the wings are beautifully textured and I like the dual-moulded combination of reddish brown and white plastic, formng crisp lines between the head, the body and the tail feathers.
The bald eagle includes two separate attachment points, a single stud on its back and an anti-stud underneath. The latter is particularly ingenious as you can attach accessories here as though they have been clasped in the eagle's talons, like the unfortunate pearl silver fish in the image below. Moreover, this allows you to place the eagle on a studded surface.
Overall
All three CITY People Packs have been excellent but I think this is my favourite one yet. It may not offer the exceptional innovation of 60134 Fun at the Park - City People Pack but the consistent quality of the minifigures exceeds the 2016 set and I find the models to be more appealing than those in 60153 People Pack - Fun at the Beach from last year. The range of characters is excellent and I appreciate the even division between those who are visiting the forest for leisure and others who are dressed for outdoor sports.
Furthermore, the set features a vast array of new pieces. The revised life jacket represents a significant improvement over its predecessor and the baby carrier is absolutely adorable so matches the wonderful baby figure! The new mountain bike looks tremendous too but the eagle is perhaps even better, featuring greater moulded detail than almost any other LEGO animal. I would therefore have no hesitation in recommending this set, even at its full price of £34.99 or $39.99.

I want to smack the mini-figure with the selfie stick just like I would a real person.
I’m planning on buying this set 4 times tomorrow. There’s 25 % off the set so it would be great. I just want the baby, it’s so cute :D Bought also 4 x 60134 for the Baby. It’s an expensive little figure.
Great review and very nice set, i recently ordered several parts from lego bricks n pieces included in this set particularly the new fried egg tiles got two and one of the wigs, i wanted the eagle but it was out of stock..

Hmmmm. If they'd make Yoda in baby-size instead of short-leg figure size, that baby-carrier would look wonderful on Dagobah Luke.
This so most likely depicting a scene in he US and it's territory of Puerto Rico were I have seen Eagles (or maybe is cousin migrating inside the territory), I so want it but I am not buying a whole set for that.
Female figure number three is clearly Claire from the Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu. Either Lego City is in Ninjago or she’s doing some dimension-hopping.
Lego is on a roll with these People Packs! I look forward to seeing what's next. :)
Great set but I DESPISE new bike for not having at least two points for stud connection - it means no lights or any cargo :/
Man, Great! I would love it... I would just rather have the Thresher attack then this.
I like the set, but I really don't like that new mountain bike. It looks far too chunky. More playmobil than Lego.

@lordofdragonss most mountain bikers don't bother with lights and luggage, especially with the rider wearing a full face helmet. I like the suspension fork detail, shame LEGO didn't add rear suspension to the mould though
Ah, this set gives LOTR's "Great Eagles" a reason for being classified as such. It'll be great to have contrast between them!
Great review of a really nice set. I really like the printed fried egg tiles and the new life jackets. I definitely think this one is the best people pack yet.
Would Yoda fit in that new carry piece?
I assumed the “S” logo was a throwback to racing minifigs from the 80’s and 90’s who sported a similar logo.
Great review of a great set, I just think you should have featured close up photos of all accessories.
@jdm, Yoda is a regular minifigure scale piece, but with child legs. The carry pack only fits the new baby figure, so they’d have to redo Yoda in the tiny baby size to fit.
I feel kind of underwhelmed by this pack. I like the people, and the accessories we got were great (in particular, obviously, props to the eagle) ... but it feels like there's a lot less accessories than the last two. Like, the park and beach sets had an equal balance between figuress, and things for them to do or enjoy. But here, just looking at it, it feels like, lots of figs, few accessories. I already own a copy of the set (I put in an order to Lego.com at the start of the month to take advantage of the Hans Christian Anderson set), so I'll put the figs to good use, but I think I liked the other two more.

The female minifig in the pink puffer jacket would make a great Meemaw (from 'Young Sheldon') minifig.
That raft makes me want a larger Lego whitewater rafting set that can fit six minifgs.

I don't think I saw anyone mention this, but it seems LEGO has redesigned the baby's head slightly: now there's a tiny hole on top and a small edge at the bottom representing the neck.
Looks great. Hadn't noticed they'd updated the tropical shirt.

Lovin the fried egg piece. Like the bike....but no saddle and looks to be an unflexible posing position?
I think that mount Clutchmore is, not only a reference to clutch power, but also to the Lego City under cover video game where a mount Rushmore/Clutchmore is in the background. it is facinating all of the interconnecting references that Lego puts in its sets.

Isn't the Eagle triple molded? The yellow looks to crisp with the white to be painted/printed.
